Hey, everyone! I'm thinking about upgrading my RTX 2060 6GB to an RTX 3070, but I'm unsure about my PSU being able to handle the power consumption of all the specific components of my build. I won't do any overclocking. Here's the system (it was built in February 2019, does the PSU degradation matter?): CPU: Intel Core i7-8700 (non-K) + Cooler Master Hyper 212X GPU: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2060 Gaming OC 6 GB RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX ● 16 GB (2x8) ● DDR4 ● 2400 MHz Mobo: Gigabyte B360M Aorus Gaming 3 SSD 1: Samsung 970 EVO Plus ● 1 TB SSD 2: Samsung 860 EVO ● 250 GB HDD: Seagate BarraCuda ● 7200 RPM ● 2 TB Fans: 2x Scythe Kaze Flex 140 + 1x Thermaltake Riing 140 + 1x NZXT Aer F120 PSU: Corsair TX650M ● 80 Plus Gold If you guys could help me out, I'd be very grateful. Thank you in advance!
If it seems to be that safe, would you say it handles a 3080? I'm looking for the best GPU possible for this system.
nvidia stated 750w minimum for a 3080 but with a 10900k which uses much more power than 8700. It should still be fine i guess but a total power usage could be 500-550w which is pushing it.
Thanks for the info! My mobo's maximum RAM frequency is unfortunatelly 2666MHz, so I'd have to upgrade mobo + CPU + RAM, which would be basically a new PC with the RTX 3070. And I can't afford that right now :/
It's not setting any world records, but you could do far worse... I wouldn't personally be pairing an RTX3080 with it. I'd be looking at 3060Ti or 3070.... It's a mid-range system.... The ram is pretty much a worst case scenario. It's holding the system back, but not worth the cost to be able to make a reasonable upgrade. Overall, it's still a very usable system and will probably last another 3-5 years unless there's some unexpectedly huge jump in tech....
