Hi i am looking for a new cooler to replace my v8 but i am getting mixed results. The 2 im looking at are the Titan Fenrir Xmas Edition and Corsair H50. I have a core i7 920 @ 3.6ghz with 1.325v vcore. Current Temps are 32deg idle and around 70load (prime 95 after 1 hour) Is it worth upgrading or should i keep my v8 and add another fan for push-pull config
I'd choose the Noctua NH-D14 over any of both of them for the best cooling performance possible without expensive high end water cooling.
-[I have a core i7 920 @ 3.6ghz with 1.325v vcore] -THAT'S A LOT OF VCORE FOR 3.6 on a do ,you might want to look into that -most i7-do should do 1.2xx for 4.0 -so I can see why it's hot
my i7 920 c0 does't even need that much @ 3.6 ghz. not even @ 3.8 ghz i only need 1.31250 wich reads out as 1.296
Depends on the stepping and the chip. I don't have a D0 and need 1.312v to achieve 3.7GHz. Every CPU is different. If only it was as easy as setting the same voltage for every chip, maybe in a perfect world. :nerd:
70C on cores is perfect fine. HT on? What's your ambient temperature? If you really want to change your heatsink look directly at top dogs: Noctua NH-D14, TR VenomousX or Prolimatech Megahalems.
Thermal right 120 copper, 850 grams of pure copper mates, can't go wrong there, slap 2x push pull fans and your good.
^ The thermal index for copper is only slightly better while a heatsink's weight doesn't relate very much to its cooling performance, either. More surface contact between the metal and the air makes a way bigger difference, as does more airflow as well as a better thermal transfer between the base plate and the fins.
+1 for this. i have this cooler aswell. did all the research to which is the best cooler and for price and its cooling ability and the fenrir came out the best. 10 runs on maximum stress test on ITB and the cores just push past 60c (61c to be exact lol). i would 100% recomend this cooler from experience of using it.
@ burebista, yes HT is on and ambient temps are around the 28 mark @ zer0kewl, yes i still need to lower voltages i know, i was running 4.0 @ 1.325 but was abit unsure on temps @ Copey, wat oc are you doing? the phenom BE are a cool chip but they tend to get hot under OC
Then temps are perfect fine. At least for me. But I forgot to question about what temps are we talking here. Core on-die temps measured with RealTemp/CoreTemp or CPU temp measured from socket?
@burebista, yes these temps are measured through SpeedFan 4.40 and Core Temp .99.5.27 At the moment i am running 3.8ghz w/ vcore of 1.29, qpi of 3.8ghz and memory @ 1.9ghz and my temps are up to 73 during intel burntest (32threads, 4096mb ram) @deathspark, can you please list your voltage settings and multplier etc for cpu, qpi and ram?
Im running just under 3.9ghz, it doesnt go above 52c most of the time, but my rooms like a sauna with this hot weather so goes a few degrees higher, never goes above 50 in game. For the price you wont find anything better, im looking at a new fan to put on it to push a little more air, but aint sure what to try.
sure i will mate: cpu@1.26v, HT off qpi/dram@1.3v ram@1.6v got these tight @7.7.7.20 1T everything else is set to auto. i had the cpu/pll@1.9v but ive set back to auto now and still stable, i test with maxstress IBT.
@ Deathspank, i mite try a 1T command rate @ 1600mhz but i think it failed for me last time, my ram's natural speed is 1866mhz w/9-9-9-24-2T
