I have read and heard several different ways to install a new card and would like some opinions. I have heard to first uninstall current drivers and also to only uninstall current drivers if switching Nvidia to AMD. I also have read that you don't need to uninstall current drivers first but make sure you have the latest ones in place.

So what is the correct way?

Changing to another NVidia card, just plug it in.
I've never had a problem doing this with NVidia cards.

Done it recently with 980 to 980ti to 1080ti.

I did it going from an R9-270X to an RX 470. Didn't uninstall anything. Just popped it in and booted up. Card was recognized and worked immediately.

Completely uninstall then shutdown and then install the new card along with reinstalling the drivers is the best way and risk free. It takes just a minute or two more, don't see why you wouldn't do it this way.

Because there is no need unless the installed driver is old or changing from AMD to NVidia.
Can you point to the problems associated with changing an NVidia card?

This is how I do it. Just to mention, prior to getting the new card delivered, I'll download the latest driver so that it's ready to be installed after I put in the new card.

Thats just how i do it, if i don't i always have a sort of regret in the back of my head, i know in most cases it works. I just like to go "by the book".

Driver settings might get corrupted, like AA , AF not appling properly , it happened to me a while back, not from reinstalling a new gpu, but from not doing a clean ddu install of new drivers.

Ok I tried installing by just doing nothing and the new card deleted the current drive so I installed the driver again and all is well.
