I am wondering if there is a way to keep the core speed from throttling down. I am using Afterburner and have my 6950 currently running at 880 on the core. When I use OCCT or Furmark my core will run between 600-880. I cannot for the life of me remember how to keep this from happening. BTW I am running beta 7 and have the 11.2 drivers installed.

Your problem comes from AMD's Powertune function. That is a function which limits the total power current. So there isn't anyway to disable powertune function now, just dont use the tool like Furmark or OCCT then you won't see such issue again.

Is this supposed to happen in certain games?

none of any game required such high power, even 2560x1600 with 120Hz display and maximum AA & AF. That's why both NVIDIA and AMD have such power limitation function now.
