from the time 8800gtx is released I have been thinking ...something... You see, when you talk about a card like 7900.......you say its core is 500Mhz...(or something like that).....this means the internal shaders (Pixel or vertex) the 7900 has a clock of 500Mhz..right.... then Why 8800gtx specification says......1350 Mhz shader clock and 550Mhz core clock.......?????????.......why both are not the same... GURUS any Answer for that???????
or is it 8800gtx is using both dx9 pixel, vertex shaders with unified shaders for backward compatibility....... who knows....:eyebrows: :eyebrows:
i heard its the same with X1900 or G70 where the shaders , both pixel and vertex wrere run in different clock speed than Core which contains ROPs, TMUs but this time we have unified shaders, adn shader clock is a lot faster than core clock i think they should have a number that associate with shaders... cuz afaik : pixels fillrate = #ROP x Core clock texture fillrate = #TMU x Core clock but ATI's X1900XTX had 48 pixel shaders vs Geforce 7900GTX's 24, both have 8 vertex shaders... and if u only look at fillrate GeForce 7900GTX is clearly superior than X1900XTX, but in Oblivion or pixel shader heavy games X1900 is faster. anywa here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G70#GeForce_7800_GTX if someone doesnt know anything about GPU and look at the spec, he will have the impression that GTX is clearly faster than X1900XTX, but pixel shaders do matter in agmes liek oblivion. ... so he would have bought the wrong thing..
You Info about the fill rate caluculation is right.... the result obtained are the theoretical maximum possible fill rates....you can compare the theoretical and actual FILL rate of any GPu using 3D MArk....And you will know that they offer almost 50% of their true power in fill rates....... (Again shows the massive API oper head in DX9 games limiting the true power of GPU's)... But Is it possible that G80 is using two Different types of Shaders????......
The g80 cards have a fully unified Shader Architecture. It's 128 shaders can process pixel, vertex, or geometry shaders. The speed difference is simply because Nvidia uses Clock Domains on it's hardware. Much akin to how the G70 cards had a higher clocked Vertex shader than their pixel shaders.
