My MB died a few days back :frown:. RIP . Time to get new one. and that means getting a new processor as well. No point getting a discontinued / old LGA775 MB for my quad core now. Although i'd love to get a 2500K, i just cant afford one at the moment. i5 2400 is there but again its only slightly cheaper than 2500. The next in line, i.e available in local market, is i3-2120. 3.3GHz. 2 physical cores. 4 with HT. (and no, there is NO AMD :bang:. for some strange reason AMD has totally vanished from our local market ) My question, is it any good for gaming ? I have seen the benches on Anandtech and it beats my quad core. and i was happy with my quad. so it should do. right ? would love to hear the opinion of anyone actually using it though. I play/currently playing BFBC2(yep, no BF3 yet), Crysis 2, ME3 and Deadspace 2. So thats the line up. Based on natural progression i will be getting Crysis 3 and Deadspace 3 when they come out. So should i go for it. would love to hear any advise / opinions. Thanks.
Yes, the i3 is good. Google search some reviews and you`ll see the i3 is a favorite in budget builds. You`ll need a socket 1155 motherboard and some ddr3 memory. DDR3 1333 1.5v memory ~$20 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...IsNodeId=1&name=4GB&ShowDeactivatedMark=False i3 2100 vs Q9400 http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/76?vs=289 keep in mind the above comparison is using an i3 2100 **edit** deleted link for motherboards
Thanks for the reply AllTech. I wont be needing the memory as my last board was DDR3 capable so the 6GB Ram on the left is DDR3. The problem with H61 is that it only has two Ram Slots and i have 4 sticks of ram (1GB x2 + 2GB x 2). Im not cutting corners for the MB and am going for a P67 / z68 at least. Have currently short listed an intel MB DZ68DB. The price is right and the built in graphics are an added plus. Rest of the components will remain the same. Oh and yes I am getting me an SSD , a Corsair force 3 60GB (hence the compromise on the processor).
Specs/model number of memory you already have? Specifically the voltage, the 1155 boards require 1.5 volt and it is very possible you have 1.65 or even 1.8
yea ok. I thought you were looking for a budget build to replace old board. apologies... So, the z68 boards are good and you`ll really like SSD.
The cpu is good, and favourite budget builder choice. Of course i5 has more muscle, but really,as for gaming there is a point when GPU makes a difference. There ,i said it,you can start debate all that you want ,but i3 is the little gem for budget computers. Get an H67 board, more ram slots and a few extra ports, and call it a day.
i don't know whether games really do push ur cpu to limits, i have core i7 quad-core and all i see on my g19's screen is cpu runnin b/w 50-70% .......50% is more often
