    Hey,

Im thinking about getting rid of my Nvidia 7800GT and getting a X1800XT (512). The actual cost will be around £50 or less (selling the 7800GT), would this be 'worth while'? - or is the performance difference only slight, therefore im better off keeping my current card?

    Thanks :)

Provided the Connect 3d model has the 6 phase voltage regulation circuit

honestly I dropped my 7800gtx for the x1800xt(flashed to the PE bios) which i did on pure faith! I had no knowledge of the card and I thought it would have been a mistake but boy i was proved wrong! better picture quality and better fps @ higher resolutions! I have some info/specs/benchmarks for you if your looking to buy a x1800xt flashed to PE bios with 6 mosfets!

Well worth it, hell it'd be worth it for the 256MB, the 512MB is just gravy. :D

    Definately worth it tbh.

You should notice a ~ 25%+ performance increase with possibly more in Oblivion if you play it .

Yes the 256mb can be flashed. Any X1800XT from 3DConnect, Sapphire, and HIS can DEFINATELY be flashed.

Flashing the card, is changing the bios of the video card. THis changes how much voltage everything gets and how fast. Say if you were to flash to XT PE, you would get around 500-1000 point increase on 3dmark05. It'd get u like, an extra 5fps or something on average?

Sweet how do you do this? Oh and it probably voids the warrentee huh? Well I'm getting a new x1800xt 256mb and so do you think I should wait 13 days then do it? Or do it like right after I install it?

You will most likely have to edit the bios to reflect only 256mb ram, and timings may need to be changed.

Monkey, no, not 'any' card from those manufacturers can be flashed to XT PE, they need the newer revision board with 6 phase voltage regulator circuit, to handle the extra voltage across the core.

You might wanna do some searching on an XTPE BIOS for the 356mb version.

Search these forums, there were lots of threads about it.

    **edit
doesnt void the warranty on my Sapphire 512mb card, as it was Sapphire who released the BIOS initially for use with their cards

Yeah I'm getting a Sapphire card too... But its only 256mb version.

I just found a refurbished Connect3D X1800XT 512MB for about $130 shipped. After reading through the FAQ on the site and all it looks like it's all kosher, but we'll see in about a week, week and a half.
