Yeh it will help!! I'm also in the process of getting another folding rig together, bought a second hand 8800GT for folding only. Only need a cheap 775 motherboard now. Got everything else. Reason is because the ppd on my current rig is not good at all... :biggun:
i tried folding at office laptop and it reduced my system performance and system crashes occurred..not sure but probably i setup something wrong that time..at home iam afrading the same thing..but this thing(FOLDING) works when u r not using ur PC right? well i may give it a try again The thing is Using PS3 is just easy..plug and play...
Well, you can trust me when I say that the SMP2 v6.30 Client is now very easy to configure and will work flawlessly (for 99.99% of the time) As long as you follow this very easy guide, you should be up and running in <5 minutes. Of course, I am assuming that your home PC doesn't do any CPU intensive tasks like encoding, heavy gaming, etc. If that's the case, you will want to install 4 Classic Clients by following this guide. Do remember that the PPD for SMP2 will be significantly higher than 4 Classic Clients. For your GPU, I recommend that you either use the GPU2 Client OR the GPU3 BETA Client with -advmethods flag. I have written a guide that you can read to have a better understanding. Also if you have any questions/problems, feel free to ask us and hopefully, we can help you :nerd:
In addition, u guys trying to say that, different hardwares results different FOLDING points? interesting. and u say PS3 is weker than a Nvidia 285? very very interesting...i must read more about this FOLDING.
ps3 = 1000ppd 285 = 9000ppd - 10000ppd and a C2Q Q9650 should be around = 5500 if you overclcok to 4Ghz like me it can do around 11000ppd
This is very interesting, we have managed to get 13 Million Points in a Month and its very impressive. Here is a graph from August 2007 to August 2010:
