I am trying to set up a private wireless network with my PC(wired) and my laptop(wireless). I should mention that I am with my universities network.

I have an access point (Cisco 340 series, no installation CD) and a switch. My plan was to connect both the access point and my PC to the switch which is then connected to the network socket.

I tried to configure the access point first, so I loaded a serial terminal to get the IP which is 192.168.1.100. I then tried to connect to this IP to get to the access point's web config pages, so I connected the access point directly to my PC (Ethernet) but I only get "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" or a similar message on Firefox.

Have I missed a step here? I feel like I have missed something really basic.

...the answer is yes.. I had forgot to change the IP of my machine to the same subnet as my access point...
