Well the thing is, a game is an artform as much as anything else that you would normally coin as art. Like a painting or a poem etc.

You want to ban the art because the society it portrays is sick? It is in my opinion hypocritical and typical suburb housewife mannerism. They are more then happy to contribute to blackhawks and ac 130s 'lighting stuff up' in some desert, where she doesn't have to get her own hands dirty but when it is brought into the living room then all of a sudden it is wrong and they start moralising about it?

What is more productive is to get angry about what inspired the game, namely reality..and do something that might actually change the current situation instead of some fantasy quest about a game that has some violence innit.

Comparing snuff movies with a portray of an ongoing conflict and the result/outcome of 60 years of western politics isn't the same thing I'm afraid.

    /edit

Might aswell add that I'm not defending IW at all, I'm not gonna buy it anyway due to no dedicated servers and I will obviously not pay for a 1-2 day long singleplayer campagin, just I find this whole 'outrage' totally missdirected.

I really don´t have a problem with killing civillians on a videogame, they´re just a bunch of pixels... I´ve been killing animated pixels and watching action and horror movies since i was 10 and i haven´t kill anybody (yet...) because of that... But we all know that people will bitch about it anyway because of terrorims and so on...

And by the way, it´s funny the way people look and accept things accordingly to what they believe it´s right and wrong, for example it´s perfectly normal to make a game or movie where the U.S. destroys their enemies completly because the´re evil and so on but if someone makes a movie/game where America it´s the bad guy and others try to destroy it, then the the movie is trash and is provoking violence towards the U.S. that do nothing but good... c´mon spare me the bull****!!!

The game may get its ideas from reality, but it is a work of fiction, and its not what im getting at, its society as a whole getting desensitized to whatever images are thrown at them, which is where the snuff movies comparison comes from, i wonder how many people on here looked for the Sadam Hussein hanging.

As i said earlier, is mass murder worse than rape, if killing a pixel human is acceptable, is raping a pixel person also acceptable if its the right context.

Though you know we live in a messed up world when all the random killing in GTA is ok, but some "Hot Coffee" is destroying our childrens minds lol.

Anyway, enough ranting from me, i will prob still buy the game, even though the SP was short and scripted on 4, and i rarely do MP

Yeah, its strange how a natural thing like sex is banned but murder is ok, hmmmm.

Quite funny, i posted last night how i enjoyed the machete in L4D2 as choppy choppy was fun, but thats different from this.

Aye, you should think of more examples like that for yourself, and ask yourself why all of a sudden you think this is outragous or wrong or, borderline wrong or wichever your stance is on this. ( you as in redemption and anyone else who follows the thread ).

Europeans and Americans have diffrent views on many things, some are cultural diffrencies since when they left europe and some are more constructed diffrencies.
I mean the sex thing is a perfect example, getting a gun is cool but sex and porn is bad ( generalizing to make a point ).

Blowing up ppl in some godforsaken desert and supporting its troops is good but killing people in reality-like videogames is bad.
    I mean c'mon.

I THINK ( havn't googled it in other words :) ) in most democracys murder is penalized by inprisonment. In most states in the US murder is = life sentance. In some states murder = the government murders you. Same thing there, some things don't follow logic rules where 1+1 = 2 and A and B is followed by C.

This is a prime example where people are getting offended by how brutal and unfair and blunt the real world is, but they only take action when it is portrayed in a videogame. How about all the brutality they show you on CNN wich doesn't even make you flinch. This isn't about some negative development where people get desensitized, we all been desensitized since the 90s when they really started to show WARs in realtime uncensored on the news.
I think people getting upset about this and other video games ain't honest with themselves here. They might be really offended by what is going on in the world, not agreeing with things and whatnot, but making videogames a scapegoat is just an anxiety relif to take your minds off the real issues in the world.

You wanna treat the disease or just mellow down the sympthomes kind of situation going on here.

Trying to change world politics is not far from impossible for the individual.
Trying to enforce stricter weaponcontrol is also not far from impossible.

But crying about violent videogames that mirrors the reality..thats not that hard, especially on the internet, Am I right?

Well the difference is that Left4Dead's violence is so over the top that its removed from reality, killing Zombies is comedy movie material these days.

I never claimed that i thought this game or any would lead to copycats, though im sure the next Airport incident will no doubt be blamed on this.

I just think its in bad taste, shooting innocents at an Airport, what will be in MW3, shooting up a hospital or a school.

I certainly don't approve of bombing anyone in the desert, and dont support it.
I don't even like Army or war games, COD4:MW was the only war game i've ever nearly finished.

I'm certainly not desensitized by the news, with daily newspapers and hourly checks of news websites, i get bombarded with lifes f*ck ups, and it still gets to me.

All i've been sayin is this sounds like its not necessary, and won't help make it a better game.

Wow you guys just NEVER EVER play nice do you (thanks to sneakers)

I agree that mods can't be everywhere but you guys are talking about a game sure it's a bit contreversial but PLEASE Sneakers stop it. Don't talk about Oprah don't talk about the CIA. This is just a game, trying to depict reality, and IMHO IT'S SUCCEEDING. That's all you have to say.

Everybody thinks this and this about the world, but no one ACTUALLY know what is happening. So your witty posts can instead be put on

Think your missundertsanding me here abit.

I took the political line on puropse since thats where this thread was going anyway, as the rest of the 1283812 threads all over IW, and activision boards, youtube cnn etc already have.

People can think whatever they want about games in general or this perticular game, all I'm saying is that if you feel strongly about these things, then make a proper stance on it. Crying about videogames will not change what the videogames portray, eod.

Went over board to make a point; and kill this baby before it grows any further, gets tatoos and chesthair :chainsaw:

So again, my point is..people raising a voice that they do not like videogames where military organizations cause collateral damage may write to their congressman or whatever stating that they do not appriciate that approach, bitching on the internet about cod ain't gonna change whatever it is that disturbs you.

We on the same page now :)?

My view on the whole thing has never been political, and definitely nothing to do with military organiations, its purely been violence against innocents.

The whole thing just brings images of fecked up emo and goth kids acting out fantasys while screaming, "now look what you made me do"

Selling out is a word we hear alot, especially on game forums, and my biggest disappointment is that IW have sold out to the blood hungry teenagers and garbage tabloids to make sure nearly everyone wants their game.

I don't know man. I know where you comming from with this as I'm sure you understand my pov aswell.

But for me it is pritty political, I mean "these emo kids acting out" and all that. I'm of the opinion that if you do not want people to act out all nutty a la videogames then you don't sell them weapons that easily, simple as that. If you remove the videogames then they will sit on cnn/youtube and get inspired and do their thing anyway, no?

The game depicts reality, where nothing is black and white, and nobody is 100% bad or 100% good. The easy access to weapons in many countries is the root of the problem. I mean I doubt anyone in say Canada was thinking "oh man emo kids are gonna gun people down now cus of this" where in say California that idea isn't all that far off.

I don't know man we got diffrent opinions, you guys don't even seem to think it is political where I do and so on.

In the end I guess it doesn't matter one bit, I'm not paying for the game to sit on a lagged none dedicated server with 300 ping :)

The new opening scene for MW2 will now show some fluffy bunnies running around the airport wrapping up innocent civilians in super soft bubble wrap and then kissing them on the foreheads while throwing flowers in the air.

i cant wait its gonna be awasome :puke2:

Do you think that if you choose to shoot them then the game sends some information off to a special CIA database? /tinfoil hat :D

    Exactly, 18 is a teenager.

We know whats real and what is not, but not many of them do.

Its not popular or even political correct to say, but these days there are far too many angry kids getting bullied who dream up ways of killing their tormentors, i've worked with so many that its starting to worry me.

    No, who said that?

I said there are too many bullied kids who dream up ways of getting back at people, and alot of the idea's i've heard them say seem to be influenced by games and films.

Most get rid of their frustration with stuff like this, but alot use it as inspiration.
