Which has better data security and a history of preventing breaches?

My external harddrive backup. No risks of dataleak, losing the data due to services procreating up / being unavailable / being cancelled / whatever.

Just unplug it whenever it isn't being used, and there is no risk of losing data to power surges etc.

Need a cloud solution, have hard copy solutions but I'm looking to expand my initial 5GB to a subscription-based cloud service. 50GB a month maybe 100GB.

    I wouldn't go that far...

    Your own.
If you outweigh pros and cons, your own cloud solution could be "better". Some will begin to differ, some will swear by it.
Nextcloud with encrypted data, or similar.
