....My new game of the year :nerd:

New York, NY - February 18, 2010 - 2K Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), today announced that Sid Meier's Civilization V, the newest entry from the genre-defining strategy-based franchise, is currently in development at Firaxis Games for PC.

Civilization V reinvigorates the classic turn-based strategy genre with an astonishing new engine built from the ground-up for this flagship edition of the Civilization franchise. Players are introduced to an entirely new combat system, deeper diplomatic interactions and a cavalcade of expanded features that deliver a fully immersive experience providing hours of entertainment as players build and defend their empire on their quest to become the greatest ruler the world has ever known.

Civilization V takes this definitive strategy game series in new directions with the introduction of hexagon tiles allowing for deeper strategy, more realistic gameplay and stunning organic landscapes for players to explore as they expand their empire.

The brand new engine orchestrates a spectacular visual experience that brings players closer to the Civ experience than ever, featuring fully animated leaders interacting with players from a screen-filling diplomatic scene and speaking in their native language for the first time. Wars between empires feel massive as armies dominate the landscape, and combat is more exciting and intense than ever before.

The addition of ranged bombardment allows players to fire weapons from behind the front lines, challenging players to develop clever new strategies to guarantee victory on the battlefield. In addition to the new gameplay features debuting in Civilization V, an extensive suite of community, modding and multiplayer elements will also make an appearance.

Wow, you'd think they would upgrade the engine at least. Civ has looked the same since Civ 3.

I hate ALL of Sid Meier's game. I don't think they are deep or innovative at all, in fact I think all of his games are shallow and formulaic.

Looking forward to see how they actually have improved the combat mechanics. It was rather straight forward in all previous Civs. Especially trying to capture cities >_>

Ruining? I'm revolutionizing the genre with Fable 3. Who needs health bars, experience, well-written NPC's, or a decent storyline? I'm giving fans what they want: weapons that grow larger as you use them.

Yeah there was no difference between Civ 3's 2d engine and Civ 4's 3d engine.....

The 3D engine looked so bad it may as well have been 2D.

Nice to see some actual pc games, designed for pc gamers coming out.
Hexes and the focus on improving combat sounds great,
since I always found combat to be the weakest part of Civilization games.

It is a strategy came; what do you want? Crysis? It was their first attempt at a 3d engine and for that, I think they did a good job. Could it have been better? Sure, but considering it was their first attempt as strategy developers, I think they did a good job. The gameplay was still good, the only thing I felt was the expansion and game costs stayed too high for too long.

Civ 5 looks to be another great game.

Unless they massively improve mid-late game AI I won't buy it.

Civ is a great concept and has good units, but the AI is shallow.

This is a topic about civ 5, not your random trolling opinion, please refrain

    In either case
I'm not sure WHY I'm looking forward to this game, the fourth iteration is less then impressive
