Choices!?

?

Do I:

  1. Just wait for more stock and hope to get my paws on one

  2. Get a 3900X/XT and suck it up for a couple of years

  3. Get a 3800XT and wait until there is more definite 5x00 stock

So I missed out on a 5900X thanks to bot-based bas++ds and CCL's crappy system (got to checkout then error). Anyway, yes I am bitter cos I have a 3070 based build ready togo but no CPU!!

    The rest of the build:
    Asus B550-F Gaming motherboard
    32gb Crucial Ballistix DDR4-3600 C16 RAM
    Zotac RTX 3070
500gb Samsung NVME 980 Pro SSD
    2tb ADATA NVME SSD

So there is a poll.....and just wondering, what are your thoughts?

Please note, its been almost 10 years since my last platform upgrade, but my patience is thin at this point!!

    Thanks in advance
    JM

    Patience, it'll be worth it

Same things happened with Zen 2 but a couple of weeks later, there were no shortages in supply, just the initial supply, these are damn good chips.

I dunno you hit the lottery in getting a 3070 so it could be worse. If I were you I'd get either a 3600 or a 3700X though since you aren't keeping your CPU very long. Or wait a bit longer I suppose.

Just wait a little more before making a decision. Supplies are said to be good for theses chips. It's just launch week.

The bonus if waiting for little bit longer will be that the prices might drop a little bit wink wink .

I got fed up with waiting for 5900x stock and got a 5950x instead but i i wouldn't recommend it if your just gaming like me(i just wanted to scratch an itch+ got impatient waiting on the 5900x). Wait a bit more, large stock is on it's way.

Post some benches and I hear you can disable a CCD to get it boost more since you have THE best binned chiplets in that CPU.

If you can believe it i still have it in its box, since i'm changing mobo and putting it under a monoblock, i said to wait for the 6800 xt to launch and will get a waterblock for that too and install them all at once, have to change some fans and cables too.

It's a lot of work and i'm a really lazy person and dependent of my PC and i feel like losing it if i stay more than a couple hours without it while sitting home.

I will definitely try disabling a CCD to see if it clocks higher now that you mentioned it,didn't cross my mind before.

    UPDATE:

Snagged a Ryzen 9 5900X for AWD-IT as part of a bundle (this is a new build, so just returned the board I bought the week before :))

    What a difference.....
