    Hi folks,

My kid is about the age now where I need to look at protection from stuff popping up on the internet.

My old firewall, Kaspersky, had some provision for this but I didn't check it out while I had it.

I now have Comodo and Avast.

Any advice on what exactly I need to do? I'm a bit lost... I don't really look at security much, just install it and let it run.

Is there a recomended procedure to protect kids while using a PC?

    Any advice much welcome.

    Cheers

Well, that's the question isn't it.

I thought it might be a block on dodgey search words to stop some sites coming up.

    But I'm not entirely sure.

OpenDNS family Filter DNS is a good place to start which is easy and requires minimal changes.

lol im glad my parents never blocked stuff when i was growing up i got to see life the way it was meant to be. porn, faces of death, chat rooms, loaded guns in the house, ext... now im 31 have my own family and living good

your not "protecting" them from anything to be seen on the web just sugar coating life and a sugar coated kid grows up and populates are prisons so we have to pay for it

Just install AV in case he accidentally lands on malicious site. As far as porn sites go, most kids don't have interest in that, I doubt that's a real big issue.

Errrrrr. If you have girls maybe.

Every dude is going to be on there pretty damn quick.

But like someone else mentioned. You can block it, but it's also a good idea to talk to them about it, and teach them about that stuff so they can make informed decisions.

    Can't agree more!
Overprotected kids are torn from reality... and one day - BHAM!, it smacks them right in the face.
C'mon, people, talk with your kids, explain them all the things you think might be inappropriate, but don't cover them in your overprotective bubble of unreal world.
Let your kids listen to your words and make decisions based on the information you gave them.

It's more limiting them from knowing the things that go on out than protecting them from them.
Protection is given by guidance and experience, not by denial.
I think most parents are not open minded enough or maybe even to weak to face the things that come up.

i don´t have yet kids of my own,but i helped raising a lot of nephews and nieces...
sooner or later kids will ask and human nature is based on curiosity and learning is based in having experiences..
you can ´´teach´´,protect bla bla to a kid, sooner or later questions arise.better explain first what is what.

    Your point?
If discussion regarding it isn't wished, it shouldn't have been posted on a public forum in first place.
