The 6600 is about half the price, but it's also considerably slower ...

    Standard 6600 - $99
    Core: 300 MHz, 8 Pixel Pipelines, 1 Texel Shader = 2400 MTU/s
    Memory: 550 MHz, 128-bit = 8.196 GB/s

    Standard 6800GS - $190
    Core: 425 MHz x 12 Pixel Pipelines x 1 Texel Shader = 5100 MTU/s
    Memory: 1000 MHz x 256-bit = 29.802 GB/s

    XFX/Leadtek 6800GS - $205
    Core: 485 MHz x 12 Pixel Pipelines x 1 Texel Shader = 5820 MTU/s
    Memory: 1100 MHz x 256-bit = 32.783 GB/s

6600 = 1/2 the price, less than 1/2 the fill rate, 1/4 the memory bandwidth of the 6800GS

The pipeline configuration of the x1600xt isn't quite as cut and dry as that. It's theoretical numbers are listed as:

    2400 mtexels/s @600mhz
    2400 mpixles/s

the theoretical fillrates and memory bandwidth are all... well.... theoretical and does NOT correspond to real life performance...

just like the FX series, they looked really good on paper, but .... yea..

i would suggest u get a 6800GS, from XFX (the XXX edition with high clocks)

Seems to be a good indication in this case of performance between the 2(x1600xt vs 6800gs) though. ;)
