Hello. I had 2 x 5870 but one 5870 died ( i still don`t know why ) anyway i am thinking of buying one 5970 to replace the dead 5870. Can i use these cards together? I was thinking to buy another 2 x 5870 to have 3 x 5870 but that would be much to expensive and also to much heat and power consumption.

Yup I have 1 5870 and 1 5970 in crossfire, It works Great !!! I recommend you get the 5970.

Also if you have extended PCI-E slots on your motherboard then the cards will not get very hot, because they do not need to be so close to eachother.
So you will still have TRI-Fire without having 3 actual cards.
    :)

EDIT: Also be sure that if you choose to get the 5970, put it on the bottom slot and have the 5870 on the top, because the 5970 will get hot. Well it also depends on the case you are using because your airflow could be different then mine...
