Can i run xbox series x on 1440P 165mhz monitor with HDMI 2.0? I will be able to use 144hz/120hz on 1440P?

    That monitor:

Somebody on MS forum , said this to me :'in bandwidth theory yes, in reality most likely not. 1440p @ 120fps, gives your around 3,3 Gbps pr. channel in 10bit, and should land but the XsX will not output it if it does not detect HDMI 2.1."

For 120hz it needs to be a 2.1 HDMI connection.

You'll do best if you buy as big and good a TV as you can afford, with HDMI 2.1

The amount of titles that will actually run at that high of a frame rate is very small. it will mainly be low graphic indie titles and remakes from previous generations. Maybe a few big budget titles will support it but expect the graphics to be lowered quite a bit.

Don't buy a series X strictly for 120fps gaming. You will be disappointed. There will not be as many titles as on PC achieving this. And as stated above. You need hdmi 2.1

    I'd personally stick to 1080p.

From what I've read, it should be possible because the XSX can output native at 1440. (The PS5 cannot yet, but will probably get an update to support it.) It might need to reduce the Chroma, might not work with HDR, etc.

The thing I'm not clear on is how/where you set the option to use a high, or variable frame rate. Is that game dependent, or is there an option at the OS.

On the One X I couldnt get it to work with 2.0. Not even Freesync, it was the Odyssey G5 monitor from Samsung.
Only 1080p 120hz worked, so not sure how it works on Series X.
I sold it cause Freesync did not work, now I have a older Qled monitor from 2017 4k 60hz and no issues with Freesync.

Depends on the monitor. I have an Omen 27i and can confirm 1440p and 120hz VRR works on it even at 10bit colour. Some monitors are limited to 100hz over HDMI 2.0 which the Xbox does not support so you'll be limited to 60hz. The Omen 27i supports 120hz over HDMI so it's all good.

Gears 5 runs at 120hz at 1440p and is nice.

If I were you I would play it safe and purchase a display that has HDMI 2.1. Be sure to purchase the proper HDMI cables if needed. The OEM HDMI cable that comes with the Series X meets specifications, works just fine and is highly rated.

Many future technologies will indeed take advantage of HDMI 2.1 capabilities. The early headaches of 2.1 are fading away as it is being perfected. I've been utilizing HDMI 2.1 benefits for about a year now. It is bliss.

    *****EDIT*****

Ooooooops! Just noticed the date of this thread. I'm sure the OP made a decision by now. :p:p:p
