Call of Duty Advanced Warfare

It might be the huge seller it was from a few years ago, but it's still a very popular game, so why would they change anything?

It's the price that puts me off COD games, but they are aimed at MP gamers and i will never be into that.
From a SP side of things i don't think they are that bad as people make out, while i don't particularly like military FPS's anymore, at least the COD games don't try to be anything but silly and over the top, while the Battlefield and MOH games tried to be more serious and gritty which just makes you less accepting of the games flaws.

 

Oh I know they aren't going to reinvent the series. They sell like crazy, so there's no chance they are going to bother with even trying.
TreyArch said they tried to really change things up, but Activision was always there... pulling the strings and forcing them back in line with the "standard" CoD formula.

And, from a solely single player perspective... I hate CoD's campaigns because of the over the top aspect of them. Not because they are over the top, but because they don't embrace it.
They try to play the games serious and straight... as if they are some gripping, narrative driven epics.... when they play out like Michael Bay style military porn crap.
If they would once, embrace the camp and stupidity of what's happening... and really have fun with it, it could turn out great.

But, for military single player shooters... I'll take the last two Medal of Honor games over CoD any day. MoH plays it straight and keeps it realistically focused by keeping it smaller. I enjoyed Warfighter MUCH more then I have any of the Modern Warfare series or Ghosts.

 

Price puts me off the games too .. $60 for the base game + $50 (which never gets discounted during the game's useful life) if you want some variety in the maps. They want too much for an annual series.

 

Yep, even when they are on sale like they are now I still think they are too expensive considering the age of the games.

I personally don't think they have ever attempted anything other than a Michael Bay style game, so it's certainly not an accident they turn out this way.

 

Ghosts was the nail in the coffin for me no more COD RIP!

 

The first CoD and United Offensive weren't done that way.
And, despite it's story issues... CoD4 didn't go that way either. It was MW2 that went all out on the style over substance path.

Problem is, their "style"... is dull and tedious. So, the style can't cover up the lack of substance.


And yeah, CoD isn't worth 60 bucks. And, it's not that I have an issue paying that much for a game. If I think it's worth it, I'll pay.
Did so for Wolf: TNO and... several other titles in the past. But, given CoD's campaigns are about 4 to 5 hours, and they are simply awful... nope.

You see.... THIS is why people hate gamers, and why I don't even refer to myself as a "gamer". I'm not even going to comment on the graphics (that you apparently know everything about already when the game was basically just REVEALED yesterday) until we have ACTUAL gameplay, not the "gameplay" trailer you linked that everyone in this thread seems to be calling a "gameplay" trailer when it's even titled a Reveal trailer and nothing more. What i will say is you've got one hell of a pair to even comment on the SP looking lame FROM A REVEAL TRAILER with only tidbits of pre-rendered footage and a probable in-game cutscene.

And... to everyone saying "What happened to WW1/WW2/blahblahblah?".... "I want another WWx game!".... Yea... cause making 5 or 6 games based on the same exact turn of events wouldn't get old at all! If they stuck to WW1 or WW2 or the Vietnam war... NOBODY would be complaining AT ALL about paying $60 for the same game year after year with the same sets of weapons from that time period and only slight gameplay changes here and there.... EVER.... [/sarcasm]

I'm not really impressed with Ghosts as it is.... but i'm keeping my hopes up for this one. Will be nice to see how a developer other than Activision or Treyarch approach a CoD game... and i'm not going to throw up an opinion one way or the other until i actually see the GAME.... not just a reveal. You can't base an opinion on something without actually seeing SOMETHING. That'd be like basing your entire opinion on an upcoming movie that doesn't come out for another year on a 30-second teaser trailer.

The mods on this place are a ****ing joke. How difficult is it to change a thread title so as not to make the OP (that would be me) look a complete idiot with details that are completely wrong. I amended it days ago and yet it still reads as CoD: Partiots.

If I need to sleep with someone just to get it corrected please point me in the right direction.

 

They're just busy mate. I understand your issue, but give them a break. They're not paid for what they do. They all work hard.

Yeah this isnt OCN, the mods around here actually got outside on a daily basis and do things.... like earn a living.

No... just the whole "This game sucks, so every game after it by the same name has to suck" mentality. Like reviewers posting reviews on products they don't own, simply because other people are saying the same thing about it. Or reviewing a movie before anyone has ever been able to see it.

 

Yes, people are making assumptions about how the game will be. And yes, they are basing those off of experiences with the previous entries in the series.

But, we are on to Call of Duty 11 here. And the series hasn't changed it's formula driven style since CoD 4. And each entry only gets worse.
So, there's not really a lot... or anything at all for people to feel hopeful about with this series at this point.

 

More of the same is what most people want though, if certain people want something different then they should buy a different game, it's hardly rocket science.

 

It's the tenth or eleventh entry in the series. The reveal shows absolutely nothing to set it apart from older games other than tidbits from a campaign which will likely not be appealing based on past experience and the wrinkled face of an American celeb or heck maybe even those exo whatevers which rip off Chell's leg supports from Portal. I see nothing to get excited about. This is not Titanfall 2 where we should wait for more details and videos. It's CoD. It's unlikely to change significantly in the multiplayer.

 

More of the same is what they want from the MP.
But, when the main complaint for the series is the lack of any form of improvement in the campaign... then maybe the developer or publisher should at least try to step it up.
They shouldn't be allowed to just coast by with the "same old" crap in the campaign because the consumer should just accept it and look in other places.

The thing is Call of Duty isn't going to take a hit in sales just because gamers like us stop buying the games because they aren't moving forward.
Gaming enthusiasts are not the primary market for Call of Duty. The games sell like crazy because there are those that all they do is buy the new CoD or Madden games every year.
And that's all they play. I work with four of them. They all have consoles, and each year... they buy the new CoD. And they will talk about it up to the next year when the next one comes out.
And, try to engage them on any other game... they look lost. As if they were completely unaware that other games exist.
