A plastic burning smell normally means there is a label probably stuck on a hsf somewhere that is getting very hot and melting.

Its worth having a rummage around maybe on one of your chipset coolers or something. It could also be a plastiuc coating to a wire having the same reaction.

Exlectrical equiment doesn't tend to burn it just pops!

if the PSU cam with the case then its a generic 300w which is really around 250w get a 450W like me and ull be fine.

    Sorry m8,

HSF = heat sink fan, one on your processor, gfx card, chipset etc.

By rummage I mean have a look all over inside your case near heat sources (your proc etc) and see if there are any labels near that.

a smell from new components is notmal. SOme laquor present on surface of the new card or mobo or PSU gives away a smell for a while.
It will go away after few days.
Nothing much to worry about there.

Also make sure no cables are touching the CPU Heatsink as that may cause the plastic on the cable to melt and cause the smell, just a thought!

it could be a sign that your power supply is about to blow up.

    you probably need a 400+
