    Hi everyone.

I just got myself a new PC, which includes 6800 XT I found at a reasonable price.

After setting everything up, I got the computer to post and installed everything needed. At first, while installing the AMD drivers it crashed, but at this point, I didn't pay too much attention... Somehow I was getting error messages from Windows, some AMD .dll (amdihk64.dll) was missing but I could use the computer, even for undervolting my CPU. After I set up my CPU, I wanted to do the same to the GPU, but when lauching FurMark, the computer rebooted instantly, so I couldn't get GPU temps at all. In addition, for some reason, when loading the GPU, it makes some buzzing noise that I've never heard before. Following this event, I did a fresh graphics driver install, but it kept crashing early in the process. I even tried to do a fresh Windows install, but no luck.

To be honest, I reckon the GPU must be the issue. Unfortunately, I cannot get my hands on a different GPU...

    My PC:
    - i5 13600 KF
    - Corsair LPX 3200MHz CL16
    - Noctua NH-D15
    - Gigabyte Z690 Gaming X
    - Powercolor RX 6800 XT Red Devil (w/ two individual 8 pin connectors)
    - Gigabyte P850GM

The psu is a major red flag.

Do you really think I could have reboots on driver install because of the PSU? TBH I've read about the "incidents", but there was a pretty nice sale....

Can you test with another PSU? A good one.

Boot into a Ubuntu LiveUSB, press Ctrl + Alt + T, copy/paste this into it, and press Enter:

    Code:
    wget -O '/tmp/GpuTest_Linux_x64.zip' 'http://www.ozone3d.net/gputest/dl/GpuTest_Linux_x64_0.7.0.zip' && unzip '/tmp/GpuTest_Linux_x64.zip' -d '/tmp' && cd '/tmp/GpuTest_Linux_x64_'* && ./GpuTest /test='fur' /width='1280' /height='720'
This starts a Furmark Fury ring for GPU stress-testing. If it crashes or shuts the computer down, it's most likely something hardware-related. If it works for about a minute, I'd assume it's something else other than the power supply.

Linux comes with a GPU driver out-the-box for your card and can be immediately used with GPU load, and it's a largely different environment than Windows so it might avoid some oddity there if there is one.

I agree. The buzzing noise could be from the power supply when the system is under load. Can you get the AMD driver to install? I'd say set up monitoring for temps as fast as possible, but that requires the driver to be installed. At least that's how hwinfo64 works... I use that for monitoring... you can monitor gpu temp, memory junction, and hotspot temps by enabling them in the tray icon section. It's free to download.

So I got the AMD drivers to install. Running Furmark still crashes the system unfortunately. After lowering every slider related to power/clocks I got it to work. Would this indicate it's a PSU failure? In a couple of hours I'll try to run a CPU benchmark together with Furmark to push the PSU. Does this make sense?

    Thanks guys

So yeah, I just tested both Cinebench R15 and Funmark (GPU capped at 30% approx) and the system draws more power than the maximum power the GPU can take. GPU crashes at around 250 W from the wall...

Just did another test: GPU sitting at 1/3 power (100 W). Just to try, I decided to push the fans to max step by step and at some point, the PC crashes and reboots. Could that be the GPU?

Test with a decent power supply.

Well, the only way to establish that without a shadow of a doubt is to try it with a good PSU, preferably one that's at least a 750W Gold rated unit. GB PSUs are kinda sketchy to me....

Υour power supply in general terms is not the best, I have seen several reviews and they are not good, 850w is not saying much for a power supply, amperes are important and from what it seems, there are not enough for the 6800xt

    Try a different PCI-E slot.

There`s nothing worse than buy new parts only to find out that something doesn`t work.

In your case, it could be either the PSU or the GPU but i also think it`s the latter from what you described.

But it´s hard to know for sure without a spare GPU or a spare PSU, maybe you could ask someone to test your GPU?

For comparision, i`ve just installed a 6950xt on my system, with a Corsair RMi 850w, and everything is working fine, at least for now.

Another thing, seeing as this is a new build, do you have your old PC?
