Titan wasn't intended to be a direct successor for WoW. It was supposed to compete against WoW.

Since Titan wasn't released, it couldn't be profitable.

It is unfortunate, but if it wasn't fun, it wasn't fun. It is hard to tell when creating a game if it is going to be good until you have something somewhat playable. Most companies would just release it anyway and hype it enough to make a profit. But they loose credibility that way. The strive to make a game truly innovative is commendable. I wish more companies would know when to cut the cord and refocus.

In a way I think Blizzard and Valve are similar companies. The only difference is Valve doesn't announce anything until it is close to done so they never have to announce a cancellation.

I played WoW hardcore for over 7 years in one of the top 20 guilds in the world and i don't care what anyone says about it, it was a brilliant experience for me and i'll never forget the 1000s of great hours i had with the game.

I started losing interest when the expansions starting ruining it. They twisted the lore to fit the expansions and some of it made no sense.

We even made a petition with over a MILLION people signing up for an Original only server, blizz ignored it.

Pretty shocked to hear they cancelled Titan after all this time, or did it even exist in the first place since there was never any leaked info or Anything to prove it was a real thing.

I still play WoW after 9 years and I'm really looking forward to the next expansion. The only time I ever dropped my sub was at the end of BC when they just made things too hard for 90% of players and my guild self-destructed because of it. I was back for Wrath though and enjoyed that and everything since. I never played any of the RTS games because I just don't like that genre at all. To me, the lore is what you see in the game and nowhere else. I have never and will never read any of the novels.

The cancellation of Titan surprised me only because of all the time they had put into it. I never really understood why they needed or wanted it in the first place though.

Wow, never have been involved with a company that has exercised the principle of sunk costs. Must not be the propper timing for Titan to come into existance. Would have loved to be in on it to see what factors lead to the decision.

They claimed they no longer had the code for earlier versions, as well as there being issues moderating it. I'm not sure I believe any of that personally, especially considering how advanced certain shards are. If they set up a Vanilla and/or TBC only server I'd resub today, even if they stipulated that they'd offer no end user support.

If you don't like RTS, there will be aspects of the next expansion you don't like since they're adding RTS elements to the game.

I'm not a fan of RTS myself. I stopped playing early in MoP just to resume after several months but have since let my sub lapse due to the announcement of RTS elements being added to WoW with the next expansion.

Yea i remember them daft excuses, so many people never wanted expansions and we could of ran our own Vanilla servers.

They wanted Subs and the 14 million users to pay more for the expos, it's like a guarantee for a quick Billion $. I'd also re-sub if there was some Vanilla servers.

14 Million @ it's height x 60-80£ for all expos so far, that's before any of the paid for crap as well.

Talk about milking Jeeez. I cba doing the math cause i'm too lazy. It's a shiz ton though that's for sure.

    The Wall of NO:

    http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/8196600603#5

This part is most interesting to me:

Our products have been advancing technologically over time in a gradual fashion, so as not to lose the customers with the oldest equipment.
However, things like operating system support and hardware version support are outside our control--which means we have to keep slowly advancing the requirements, and adjust existing code to match.
Over time that means stuff eventually falls off the list of what we can support, because our code, gradually upgraded as it is, starts to require OS or hardware features the oldest equipment can't support.

We couldn't turn the clock back ten years, or probably even five, if we wanted to.

Blizz is no doubt in the same pickle. They've changed their database structure, upgraded the graphics, and likely done a lot of more subtle stuff over the last seven years that makes it fundamentally impossible to support Vanilla code, even assuming that code still exists in pristine form somewhere.

MOP will, as I understand it, very likely require at least a duo core CPU. That's another significant difference that can't be rolled back.

Therefore: what the Vanilla crowd is actually asking for is the development of new code to duplicate old code.
That's not easy or cheap, and is going to compete directly for resources with development of current content. There would have to be a monumental ground surge of interest to make it feasible, an order of magnitude greater than what has ever been exhibited on the forums.

I just don't agree with this at all. As I mentioned in an earlier post, there's user ran shards which get pretty damn close. They don't need to support it to any real extent, just offer people the chance to use such a server. Make them aware that they're on their own while playing them, maybe offer a lower monthly sub for people only wanting to play on those servers. The costs would be minimal, and out weighed by even a short term increase in subs.

I tend to see comments about server costs and the like also. Server costs have been proven to be miniscule on more than one occasion, a tiny portion of the monthly fee goes toward them. They've reasons for not wanting to set up older servers, but few of them are valid.

Vanilla (+TBC at most) would be my prefered server too.
But lets be realistic here. There is no single reason why Vanilla is impossible.
I mean you can argue against some or even most of them, but

It's really THE WALL of NO

I have enjoyed playing WoW since vanilla. To me every expansion has been an great experience.

Pandaria has been one of the best ones. Yea I had my doubts at first, but the beautiful and immensely detailed continent of Pandaria won me over. The areas there are some of the most beautiful Blizzard ever created.

I will be a WoW player as long as I have the money to do so. I will always remember the friends and adventures I have had over the years, with about 1000 screenshots to help my memory. I'm very much looking forward to WoD.

    For Gnomeregan!

If you mean the Garrisons, I am playing in the beta and I love them. To me it's more a different, more exciting slant on player housing. I guess you could say there are RTS elements to it but they happen behind the scenes and are not the be all and end all of the game. It's one of the most exciting things about the new expansion.

The only RTS I ever played through was the original StarCraft. I beat it the first time through with the first race and never wanted to play another game like that again.

For The Alliance and For Darnassus !
