Running on a GT 640 and a 1440x900 monitor. In the game I set resolution to my native but I'm still getting some form of letterboxing. I did make sure to turn off scaling in the nvcp.

like dark souls 1, assassin's creed series, it was meant to have letterboxing as they are designed to run at 16:9 resolution, only way is for the developers to patch the game (like the case of witcher 2)

I was going to suggest setting the scaling mode to full screen because when I set the res to 1600x900 (my default res is 1920x1080) I get black borders, setting the scaling mode to full screen removes.

I tried it at 1440x900 but I get bet black bars no matter what setting I use.

Try creating a custom 1600x900 resolution in the nvcp and set set the scaling mode to full screen.

    Edit:

I managed to remove the black bars (mostly) by creating a 1440x800 resolution.

    1440x900
    1440x800
    NVCP Settings

You are going to get black bars no matter what without stretching unless you play in a 16:9 resolution. The game was designed around 16:9.

It's a Japanese title, they design all of their games around 16:9 like this.

So as others said it is normal.

Create a custom resolution of 1440x810 and you will have a 16.9 resolution with no black bars.

    1440x810

Use this and try downsampling a 16:9 res it to your resolution. Make sure you read the readme file. Might solve your issue.

No reason to be rude. People are here because they like maximum performance from their graphics cards. I agree, black bars is unacceptable.

I Think only AC1 had some patch homebrew to eliminate the black bars.

Well what ever you do, don't use any other scaling mode than No Scaling and Display. If you care about input lag, then you would follow this advice.
