    I've calculated that it would take about three and a half years for me to mine one bitcoin using the hardware that I have (5 GPUs). Even if I bought more GPUs I'd need to build a new system to support them, and I'd struggle to fit them in my house (15 amp fuses means only 1800 watts max per room, and the two bedrooms are already taken). The situation is also the same with ASICs, which cost a pretty penny and can't be used for anything else. Mining may allow you to make a few bucks on the side, but it's no get rich quick scheme :p
