How are they getting ripped off? You get two copies of the game if you buy it now. The original and the remaster. So you're paying the same price for two that you would if these didn't exist and were buying the original today.

No, i pointed out from the first images that were released at how half arsed these ports are. The proof is in the pudding. Its not my fault if 2k and their ports teams are useless and money grabbers. How dare i refuse to accept shoddy workman ship. Its not like gamers get ripped of enough as it is, right?

The blurriness of the youtube images doesnt magically remove shadows, worsen AO, replace the textures with terribly unfitting replacements, lower the quality of the fauna and so on.

The lighting is flat as can be seen above, the wall to floor joints lack any attempt at hiding the transition resulting in making the lack of AO worse. Shine in the original not only looks better due to the lighting but also made sense as its an underwater structure at the bottom of the ocean. Its going to be built out of sturdy steal and iron.

The texture replacements are something id expect from a Texmod first timer who doesnt understand the importance of keeping with a games aesthetics. I dont care how crisp they are when the overall image is made worse by them.

Its not an opinion thing, its completely factual via comparisons to the original. These games look worse, perform worse and still are bogged with the same issues of the originals and then theres the plethora of audio bugs and poor audio quality, crashes, lack of support for higher than 1080p in B2 and needs to be changed via the ini....

They bumped up the price of the original entry of bioshocks (B1 by $10) on steam and used an inferior product to do so.

Did they happen to patch the original to ensure that the audio works for everyone?

The game (BioShock Remastered) looks like I remember it which is to say that the textures are improved as are some other aspects (FOV) but it has not been so radically overhauled as to make it look like a completely different game. It is perhaps a little disappointing that the changes aren't more obvious but this is still a gorgeous looking game almost a decade on, thanks to the stunning art direction. This is still my favourite game of the trilogy; the sequel was by-the-numbers IMO and felt recycled/rehashed with little genuinely new or innovative and Infinite started off brilliantly and had a great story but the combat became increasingly tedious, especially that last one on board the airship (it did however have the best ending of any of the games IMO).

Been having lots of crashes with the game though as it would freeze after 5-10 minutes of play. Turns out that the developers decided to keep the executable names the same as the original (BioShock.exe rather than, say, BioShockHD.exe for example) which meant that the forced AO and MSAA/SGSSAA I was using for the original DX10 version of the game where causing issues with the new version since they were being applied as well (and, yes, the DX10 version did have a working AA compatibility flag!!!). Ended up having to edit the profiles for BioShock and BioShock 2 to get around this and the game now seems to be stable.

Here are the profiles I am using (use NVIDIA's SLI Profile Manager tool or NVIDIA Inspector to cut and paste them into a .TXT export of your existing profiles):

The "reflections" (just some really bad specular, to be honest) weren't removed, just tuned down a bit and now it blends better with the textures. Which IMO it is better than plastic effect from original, but it is there:

The statue in the comparison seems buggy (maybe some LOD issue?).
    It looks just fine here:

Shadows are different here and there, but not objectively worse. Same about textures: most are really good (some less detailed textures here and there, which IMO is distracting, but not so much).
AO could be better though, even some SSAO would be a nice touch.

What do you mean by fauna?
The dead cats around Rapture are also in high quality.

Guys don't forget to enable soft particles in bioshock.ini. It's disabled by default in BioShock remaster but enabled in BioShock 2 remaster.

This is one of the most crash-prone games I've played in years!!! I've had about 6 or 7 crashes in about 7 hours of gameplay, some within minutes of each and others hours apart. The commonality seems to be that it has a higher tendency of crashing while saving which ends up with a lost save file. Thankfully, I had been saving in a new slot on each new level but I still lost 2.5 hours of progress in Neptune's Bounty because I was saving over the same slot while playing that level. Now I use two, saving over the oldest, and it was a good job I did because the game crashed again while saving but this time I only lost a few minutes of progress. Absolutely infuriating though to have a game like this crashing all the time when the older original is almost 100% stable.

    Error is this:

Faulting application name: Bioshock.exe, version: 1.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x57d777e2
Faulting module name: Bioshock.exe, version: 1.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x57d777e2

    Report ID: 30edeb00-fef4-4fae-8b41-5985308c491a
    Faulting package full name:
    Faulting package-relative application ID:

The game resets the graphics settings to 5K with all subtitles, V-Sync, AA and Enhanced FOV off as well. Had to set the config file to read-only so I didn't have to keep adjusting the settings when it happened!

I've also noticed some odd glitches such as red blocks during the respawn process in Fortune's Bounty and the new enhanced FOV results in the game clipping through walls and floors when you die, something that doesn't happen with the default FOV (hardly a game breaker but it stands out all the same).

Great game though. Just as good now as it was almost a decade ago. It's just a shame about those crashes.

    *EDIT*
I think I know what is triggering the crashes on my system... GFE keeps re-adding BioShock.exe and BioShock2.exe to the original profiles despite the fact I added them with paths so I could use the original profile for forced AA and AO and play the remastered games without forcing anything. With the original executables added (minus the paths) then driver is forcing AO and 4xMSAA + 4xSGSSAA which I believe is what is triggering the instability. There is no way to disable this either short of uninstalling GFE but then I suspect the NVIDIA Updater would still do the same thing anyway. :bang:

Same damn thing happened to me! I lost an hour of gameplay after experiencing a crash yesterday and the ini file reset. Beyond frustrating! Also, I'm not sure if it's related to GFE since I don't even have that software installed.

Just make the ini read only after you alter it.

Setting the ini to read-only prevents the game saving the golden reels you find apparently so it's not an ideal fix.

    Haven't had a single crash.
Did encounter a graphical bug. A red flickering square in the water next to a Vita-Chamber by the bar.
But, was the only place it occurred, and upon searching... it seems it's a rather common issue.

Other then that one bug, the game has been stable and very solid. No crashes, smooth FPS the entire time.
And, I for one am glad they while you can see the updates to the visuals, they didn't make them so drastic it affects the visual look of the games.
It still looks like BioShock, it didn't hurt the art style at all. But, it's just enough that you can see the higher resolution textures.
The updated models and props. The improved physics.

What are talking about, they're completely missing! Along with the water being worse than the originals.

We get crap port after crap port, but the moment a fan favorite comes along you all excuse the shoddy workman ship, then go back to complain about bad port after bad port.

Oh well, if people want to support such bad practices then go for it. Your loss.

Have you actually played the Remaster for yourself?

The "reflections" are still there. They are toned down to look more natural and realistic, as opposed to the originals overly shiny, plastic look.
And, the water looks just like the original. Same effects, only certain ones aren't stupidly locked out to a DX10 setting (one that doesn't work in Win10 by the way).

Im not installing 40+gbs of this tripe. The proof is already in the images ive posted and the plentiful screenshot comparison around the web.

If you want to turn a blind eye to lazy developers and publishers then thats your mo.

    Nixxes,
    Remdy
    2K...

Just some recent examples this year of lazy developers and half baked ports.

Steam reviews and ratings speak for themselves alongside the many complaints and issues that have been posted.

But keep ignoring the evidence...im just hater who trying to ruin your fun, right? Thou shall not speak ill of GmeDevs.

After all, facts are considered hate speech these days.

Facts are, for me at least, the game looks good. Runs good, fixed the crashing. 100% lost in the awesomeness of this environment again.

Some people still don't know what they're doing on pc with pc games. By all means keep reading their complaints and trying to interpret their screenshots, if that's what matters to you.

lazy developer? lol.. this dude.. do you even play game?? I beat Mankind Divided twice already. Playing on SINGLE GTX970, running at 3440x1440 w/ everything max, minus MSAA and reflection = on. Maybe you should find a different hobby. Guess what? they don't care about a single thing you have said. Why? Cuz the crap you complain about is unrealistic. Go make a AAA game, only then, you can qualify to b!tch and moan. Otherwise, stfu!

I wouldn't say the two BioShock remastered are lazy as such, particularly as they're free to owners of the originals, but the first game, which the only one I've played seems to be extremely prone to crashing, usually when saving. There are lots of similar complaints on the Steam forums so it isn't an isolated issue.

    Downloaded, installed.

Terrible audio quality, unnecessary changes and lack of shadowing/AO.. Hardlocked my pc when attempting to take a screenshot. Then when attempting to load the game up after my pc restarted, it locked windows up, then explorer gave me an "End Process or Wait" dialog box.

There, happy? Everything i previously mentioned, i just experienced first hand.

Uninstalled. Wont be buying another 2k game.

    I just asked man.

But... I'm not ignoring anything. I'm actually playing the remaster and experiencing it for myself.
Seeing the visual changes, playing with no crashes or issues... playing with smooth frame rates.

But, stop taking it as a personal dig just because people are playing this and enjoying it. You see "facts" that others see as opinions.
Yes, there are visual differences between the original and remasters. But, I'm playing the game myself and I still see the shadows, the reflections... the details you are trying to say have been removed.

But, also, Nixxes? Lazy developer? Mankind Divided is a great PC port. Incredibly solid. Looks great, runs great. and has been updated and supported very well since release.
