I hope this is a simple fix.

I have an ASUS Prime Z590-v MB. I have an issue were if I enable XMP I get random WHEA errors with very random momentary black screens. If I disable XMP the issue goes away. The MB BIOS is 0811, a very early/first one. My memory G Skill Trident Z RGB is on the supported list. The BIOS only gives me one XMP profile to choose from which I find strange.

Will updating the BIOS help? none of the BIOS' files give an explanation of what they fix exactly. The BIOS number for this board is up to 16XX now.

Any recommendations on which BIOS to use, if updating the BIOS will help?

    MB Asus Prime Z590-v
    CPU i7 11700k
GPU Gigabyte RTX 3080 gaming OC 10GB
Memory G Skill Trident Z RGB
    SSD 1TB NVME
    Cooler Thermaltake TH240 ARGB Sync
    USB Creative G6 Sound
    PSU EVGA 750GT Gold

    Thank You.

What XMP settings are you running the ram? Try 3200 and test it, if its stable, try 3400 and see if its stable, and so on..

Update the bios is a good idea yes, always update since you have a beast of a system.

For example i run mine at xmp 3200..if i go 3600 i get errors.

I am only offered one XMP profile in BIOS, I believe the max 3600, are you asking me to manually adjust my memory?

I will do the update later when I'm back to my computer.

Enabling XMP is de facto overclock. It changes some bios values. Mostly voltages related to RAM,, and ofc changes timings(to what u have written on box or in RAMs SPD).

So yeah. First step google, words "Intel 24/7 ddr4 stability thread" on overclockers site, read, learn, adapt. And enjoy PC working as intended.

Btw new bios may, may be better, or fix your issue.
Still, some voltages as SA/IO are better to set manually than letting XMP do this. Better for your CPU that is.

I have done as suggested and updated the BIOS, will look at the Intel 24/7 ddr4 stability thread before turning on XMP.

    TUVM all.

Thought I would leave a follow up.

The BIOS update to 1601 did fix the whea errors.

GREGIX is right. Sometimes the "AUTO" settings go way overboard. I have a MSI MPG z690 with ddr4 3600, if I leave SA on AUTO it will be at 1.35v and that is too much, only kits in the 4000mhz need that higher. I have my SA at 1.3v and DDR at 1.35v.
