I think you misinterpreted my post In no way did I mean that he is bad, everyone has his own style and taste and there are only a few things that can make a guitar player bad. It's just my opinion. Just a side note, but I don't really care about awards, nor do I think it makes a guitarist better, that's just bull****, just look at some top X lists and you will see how many "random" guitarists there are, but also miss many other guitarists that at least in my opinion should deserve the place much more. Also there are countless guitarists out there that just are underrated or not known of at all.
Andres Segovia, considered by many as the best guitar player of all time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbdGryhyalo&feature=player_detailpage (Composer: Fernando Sor)
Herman Li is super fast "in the studio", but barely any quicker than Marty Friedman when playing live (Marty, although technically amazing, isn't known for outright speed) Oh yeah, add Marty Friedman to the list too.
Juliette Valduriez This young girl is mind blowing. Adding lead to the Beatles 'Shes so heavy': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QR8EQIusnnE
For me it's Carlos Santana. He makes his guitar sing and has done some great instrumental work. I also like Garry Moore. There are many other good ones too but Carlos is the best for my money. I have never considered Hendrix to be a great guitarist but he was very innovative and influential. Just like Chuck Berry, not the best technically but very important in the evolution of the electric guitar.
Steve Vai Joe Satriani John Petrucci Yngwie Malmsteen Randy Rhoads Paul Gilbert Dimebag Darrell Just a few of my favorites
Hendrix was sloppy but he made up with innovation and style probably influenced most modern guitar players at some level.
Randy Rhoads has been my favorite since I was a kid, other notables include Tony Iomi, Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Slash, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Kirk Hammet, Dave Mustaine, many more.
Jimmy Page https://youtu.be/ODidAgdL40Y Jimmy Page just look at edge and Jack White's Face's https://youtu.be/G7B767HYUqQ .
Yngwie Malmsteen John Petrucci Jimmy Page Joe Satriani Paul Gilbert Kirk Hammett Eddie Van Halen My top pick guitarist..
There are many excellent guitarists out there (those at or near the "virtuoso" level), but my favorite has to be John Petrucci (Dream Theater has the best band of rock/metal musicians on the planet imo).
he has 50 years of evolution on his side though. great version, but it's still just a cover of something that rocked the world 50 years ago. if he would have played like this before jimmy, that would be another story
