Petri Walli most likely.
Never heard of him before, but looked him up on youtube. Fcuking incredible!
Best Guitarists? in my opinion,
So many to chose from so I just offer the one Legend:
The man is a legend. The only person I've heard use a Wah Pedal, and effects on bass and make it sound cool.
I was thinking of asking the question since when was bass not a guitar, but you set things straight. Thanks!
And lets not forget Steve Harris while we're at it. Certainly not "the" best, but he and the Irons sure are one of the most influential.
And while I'm on the roll I'd like to mention Ryan Martinie, an awesome bass player
And also a great gutarist Chuck Schuldiner
favorite guitarist of all time bar none (he's the guitarist and founder of the classic rock band JOURNEY) and released 5 solo instrumental albums which imo are his best work, i've always loved his technique and every single song he ever wrote which is rare combo for me.
i like guitar players who are able to write real music and don't need to throw at you a billion effects just to spice their already crappy music.
Jimi Hendrix for instance only used a couple of pedals including a Wah but despite his crazyness there was genius in his music, can't say the same about someone like Steve Vai, with the exception of a couple of songs his music is nothing but a show off of skills and pedal effects, extremely boring.
it doesn't matter the genre, take Dimebag Darrell, he played heavy metal and yet many of his solos were simply out of this world because they contained real melody even when he was shredding, listen to the solos in FLOODS or Cemetery Gates, superb.
skip to 3:40 and enjoy.
skills cannot be a substitute for proper music and
Jimi Hendrix 'nuff said
...and when it comes to shredding, and generally to fast playing, none of Western guitar players can outmatch the Russians...
Yngwe Malmstein (sp?) is also pretty damn fast. So is Marty Friedman. Really tough call though! Did any of you guys see the guitar idol 2009 finalists? Bloody hell they are good...
Not the greatest evar, but there isn't much use in rehashing the same handful of axe slingers over and over.
I miss the mention of Tony Iommi here... altho not the fastest he is one of the most influential players of all time, up there with Hendrix. Most bands nowadays have some connection to Black Sabbath...
I didn't see Jeff Beck's name mentioned or George Benson for that matter.
the op post (1st post) aka the one who created this thread mentioned Jeff Beck and even posted a video lol :wanker:
Tommy Emmanuel - Listening to him play lead and rhythm at the same time is one of the most amazing things ever.
Yngwie Malmsteen - Beautiful and blindingly fast neo-classical. (My personal fav)
Satriani, Vai, Beck, Hendrix, Petrucci, Clapton etc
Jimi Hendrix once even called him America’s best guitar player.
Yeah if memory serves he used an Aria Pro II bass (around the time of the accident) with a Morley Power Big Muff and Wah Wah. Beautiful Rickenbacker in the early Metallica days!
You forgot Brian May
