was gonna say Day of Defeat... but that requires Half-life... still, Half-Life is like 10$ nowadays...

    Other then that,

Enemy Territory is pretty good and I also like Armagetron, but my favourite free game (well, it used to be free anyway) is Tanarus. That game got me into online gaming, I used to get absorbed in that for hours.

I'd go with Enemy Territory as a free game. Good stand-alone client, maps are great, graphics are the bomb :)

Hehe, the action is too slow in America's Army, I was addicted to it for awhile, but then got bored.

I love America's Army. It's not for everyone, expecially if you love the pace of CS (or the hacking) or UT/2k3. However, it has great graphics and is being updated regularly with new classes, game modes, maps, and more.

Yeah I tried America's Army... I can't play games like that though. Stuff like Rainbow 6/ghost recon... I can never get used to sneaking around like that. But RtCW:ET is awesome :D

Haven't played it in a while though... they need to release the source code or map tools so people can make mods/maps. The 6 maps it came with are starting to get a little boring... too much of the same gameplay. But it is a great game!

No you don't ,it was originaly meant to be an stand alone expansion for RTCW ,but it got caned and they didn't want to throw away nearly finished multiplier portion of the game,so they finished and relesed it for free, download and enjoy, just be ready to be fraged by Zapmaster;)

Well I didn't like America's Army, Enemy Territory was ok but I was never that fond of the original RTCW, however thanks to Zapmaster for mentioning Soldat as I went and tried it out and its one of the most adictive online games I've ever played

Not that boring. I prefer the slow pace teamwork versus the fast pace quickie unrealistic conventional FPS games. It's a great game plus their going to add and update the games. If you check out the website
http://www.americasarmy.com the DEV there have revamp the unreal engine and added a combat medic. Also in future addition they'll have a Stryker, Green Beret. Since the DEV said the game will be funded for another ten years. They will voice in game, artillery support and calling in airstrikes.

I bet most are just bored because they have not release a new update for awhile. If you check out the screenies for the new version it's a totally different game. hell it's even better then 1.7

P.S. I can't believe people think a five minute match is too slow. I guess they live in roadrunner world. Where everything is fast ie cars, computers and hands

For those without Broadband (i.e. me) and have near infinite patience (check), then I recommend Space. Its turn based, one tick on the hour every hour. Doesn't require a huge amount of attention, unless you get addicted ofc.

I like some of those freeware games like elf bowling and frogapult and a new one called crypt raider its sort of like a cross between tomb raider and rick dangerous

http://www.miniclip.com/Homepage.htm has lots of small free web games, they probably won't last you more than a few minutes each but they're OK for a quick go. The small size is good for 56k-ers too.
