The first card to support folding@home was the X1K series (Don't remember if they used DX or CTM) ATI's high end 9700/9800 series had a 8x1 pixel pipeline design. One of my favorite cards was the 9700 which I flashed to PRO and lasted 3 years!! It died in the hands of my friend which used the card on a faulty AGP slot, -_- My other favorite card was the X800XT which I flashed to PE, was 2.5 faster than my 9700PRO card, it blew me away!!. I also had the X1950XT AGP but wasn't much faster than the X800XT PE because the games at that time weren't shader intensive until later that year which really showed its power. I also have honorable mention to the HD 3850 256MB and HD 3870 which are capable even today to run games on high at reasonable resolutions and my current favorite, HD 4870 which also blew me away offering me 2.5 the performance boost against the previous generation of cards.
