Ah, ye old sentimental tear jerker. World war one was a transition time from horse power to mechanical horse power. In the early stages of the war a huge amount of horses died assisting the military. Back then the dominate horse bread was the Suffolk a big horse for all occasions. Its probably fair to say that Joey would have been a Suffolk. Clearly not so in the movie. Sadly today its nearly extinct.
