Like someone earlier posted, pretty much any BF4 map with 64 players is a good benchmark to see how much of a difference that HT can make in CPU intensive games. It's virtually impossible to stay above 60fps on ultra settings without HT on your processor.

That said, HT hasn't been utilized much by many modern games, but seeing the difference that it made with BF3/BF4 and Crysis 3 receiving up to a 30% performance boost from enabling it, I hope more games going forward use it as it can really make or break the experience.

with HT disabled when there is a lot going on it gets choppy. With HT enabled it never does. HT on 24/7 ever since.

HT always on here, no problems in BF4.

I think I will do a small benchmark to compare, what fps monitor are people using to create an average over a period of time?

    Thanks

I keep HT on here... runs great! I'd recommend disabling core parking though, as that can cause stuttering when cores get taken in & out of parked status.

HT on, core parking off, HPET timer = true. Every game smooth.

I'll try on/off tomorrow, and see what runs best.

Why on earth would you want to turn HT off?

It's extra performance for feck's sake.

The odd older game here and there is actually hindered by using HT. But if you are playing recent games there is really no reason to turn it off. It will help way more than it can ever hurt the experience.

I think that depends on the users setup, ive never ever found a decrease in performance while not using HT in any game and i play games that are very very old.

    Command Prompt (Admin):

bcdedit /set useplatformclock true (enables HPET)
    bcdedit /deletevalue useplatformclock (disables HPET)

cause some one on a forum somewhere who could only afford an i5 convinced people you don't need HT and people believed it. Sure you can get another 100mhz overclock without it... but in any app that scales over multiple cores (BF3, BF4, video converting apps, etc) you will lose performance.

I've never had a situation where HT was the problem....

BF3 and 4 will scale over 12 threads. Trust me I've tested this, when there is alot going on without HT you will max out and it will stutter. That doesn't happen with HT enabled, I've tested this in BF3 over the course of about 2 weeks. Had screen shots hitting 100% util on 4 cores and it would get choppy, with HT on the same thing would only push about 70% on all threads and it never got choppy.

HPET is better turned off if you ask me. It's for older systems.

Newer systems use something called Invariant TSC, which is much more efficient and has less overhead.

I suggest enabling HPET in the BIOS, but leaving it disabled in the OS. I tried enabling HPET once and my games had noticeably more stuttering and hitching.

I also find my system runs better with HPET 'off' for games. Now and again I go back to it and try it 'on' with newer drivers but always end up switching it 'off'. I don't have the option in my motherboard bios so I just disable it in windows.

I have an extensive catalog of games, some of them quite ancient. Never have I had an issue with HT being on.

    Hmm.
