    Hi guys,

I did have a 290x in crossfire but one of the cards fried :(

I wanted to be able to play BF4 with decent image quality on a single 290x and without the second one, Ultra with 4xMSAA etc is out the question.

I'm looking for the best IQ i can get yet still maintain 60fps @ High IQ settings (1600p)

Just wondering what the best injectors and mods are out there to give me better IQ than default BF4 post processing AA?

I have the 290x OC to 1175 core and i get 60fps with Ultra with NO MSAA and post processing High.

Hoping i can get same performance but with a better post processing AA injector mod.

Any help much appreciated so i can have gaming goodness over the new year! :)

no AA injectors work atm. at 1600p you should be able to run 2xAA no problem. I run 1440p (110hz) with no MSAA but 140% resolution scaling instead. I'm sure you can run 2xAA at 1600p?

    SMAA works through Radeonpro.

    Win 8.1, x64 game .exe.

    Looks good.

Also try adding Adaptive AA to clean up all the fences etc etc, (I use TrSSAA on nVidia hardware)

Care to post screenshots with and without smaa? At full resolution? I'm running 1440p with 130% resolution scaling, does a pretty good job of getting rid of any jaggies.

Im strapped for time at mo mate and back in work 2mrw but will do some over next few days if I can.

Keep in mind if anyone wants to try it that SMAA from Radeonpro only works if res scale is at 100%, and obviously RP needs to be running in 64bit mode.

    Thanks eclap, slickric and others.

I'll take a look at SMAA via RadeonPro. Im running Win 8.1 64 bit so that looks like a winner for me. 100% res scale only as its at 1600p already anyway.

I've been quite impressed with how well a single card does at this res, been running it on Ultra but 2xMSAA instead of 4x and its around 60 most of the time with some maps bringing it down to 45 or so, still VERY playable.

I'll swap the 2xMSAA with SMAA / Radeonpro and report back on IQ and comparative finger in the air framerate.

RMA-ed my dead card but given its xmas etc, doubt ill be back to xfire for some weeks. By then they hopefully have sorted our the 290/x and xfire vsync /frame pacing not working happily issues.

Still very happy though, 290x = great card :)

    Hey eclap,

You can take a look at a whole heap of the sweetfx settings people have uploaded and their screenshots at:

Running sweetfx fine with bf4 x64. Both smaa but also using ingame 4xmsaa.
Resolutionscale doesnt do any good i think only cost on performance
Want to try trssaa out how does this work?

good luck. I can't get radeonpro's SMAA to work with BF4 in windows 8.1 for the life of me.

I made sure res scale was at 100%, tried using the 32 bit bf4 exe, disabled origin overlay, disabled directx 11.1. radeonpro's SMAA just refuses to work with BF4. It works fine in BF3. Radeonpro's other features all work fine for me in BF4, for example the FXAA settings via radeonpro work fine, just the SMAA won't work :/. If I toggle smaa on/off using the hotkey there is zero difference (yet my radeonpro log reflects it being toggled on and off). If I toggle radeonpro's fxaa on/off I can clearly see the difference. For some reason only the smaa refuses to work

    I've got an amd 280x, catalyst 13.12, win 8.1 64-bit.

If anyone with a 280x and win 8.1 gets SMAA working in BF4, please let me know what magic you used.

I also tried sweetfx, there's a version of 1.5 floating around that claims to be 64 bit and win 8.1 compatible. All of the sweet effects worked... except SMAA. Once again smaa clearly doesn't get applied when I toggled sweetfx on/off. all the other effects did, and I made sure smaa was enabled in the sweetfx config. For some reason I just cannot get any form of smaa working in bf4 in win 8.1...

I have an nVidia Card, but I cant see why it wont work for you.
    Here's what i do.

Running Win 8.1, using the x64 .exe

Install RP, enable 64bit support (click 32bit text in bottom right so it toggles to 32/64bit)
Add a profile and point to bf4.exe
Go to visual tab and tick SMAA and choose level (i use Ultra)
(Obviously being an nVidia user i unticked all other settings)
Then go to settings, advanced and choose your toggle key for SMAA in ingame (so u can turn it on and off to see if it works)
Res scale in game needs to be at 100% or else it won't work.

Yeah, I've already tried all that (and more), multiple times :(.

In another thread I posted my radeonpro debug log. radeonpro says smaa is being enabled/disabled, but there's no effect in game when I toggle it:

toggling fxaa works fine though :/

    Couple of Screenies of SMAA

Here is a couple of screenshots comparing SMAA on and off.
All other settings are 1080p,Ultra, Post Process OFF, 100% Res scale.

    SMAA OFF

    SMAA ON

SMAA clearly smooths the shoreline (look at mid/upper left of screen, and also to left under bridge), the weapon, the foilage, the iron frame to right of character.

    SMAA ON

Difference is less apparent here, but look at fencing to the right.

No forking difference. In a heat of battle you will not notice anything.

    Yeah you are right.

I also just turned down every setting to low and set res to 800x600.

As quite rightly, in the heat of battle I didn't notice anything.
