Good point. Who would think that 1996 hardware would run 2001 game well. Now that I think about it, the gap is now a much smaller than back then.

yes it is, of course. but still, I don't get people who have a c2d and 8800gtx and are surprised that the game won't run well. Get over it, get better hardware or get a console I say to them.

I was using an 8800GTX up until a few weeks ago and tbh it ran all my games no problem, not bad for an almost 6yr old card..

I doubt I'll get that kind of usable life from a gfx card ever again...

^Yeah that's for sure, my BFG 6800GT lasted 5yrs before it croaked (BFG actually rma'd it too), and my parents have an old GF 6200 in the nF2 PC I built for them.

It's nice to see people getting use out of older hardware that would otherwise be wasted/thrown away.

^Ah yeah I meant an FX5200, not 6200. It's made by Albatron who aren't even in business anymore afaik.

I doubt very many of you have a subscription to The American Rifleman (NRA publication), but it may interest you to know that they have an interview with a former British SAS Sgt. who acted as one of the advisers for Battlefield 3. They also have a short article about the game, in which they seem to give it props for being realistic and say that it could have use as a training tool as well.

Just browsing the D2D BF3 page and I noticed something:

Battlefield 3 Download Recommended System Requirements
    OS: Windows 7 64-bit
    Processor: Quad-core CPU
    RAM: 4GB
    Hard Drive: 20GB
Video Card: DirectX 11 compatible with 1024 MB RAM (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 or ATI Radeon 6950)
Additional Info: Requires Origin account for game activation and online play
    Battlefield 3 Download File Size
    13.5 GBVersion
    TBDPublisher
    Electronic Arts UK

Have I missed something? I thought the recommended said GTX560Ti?

They changed it a while ago on the origin page but some places still state a 560.

So, should we prepare for better textures, tesselation and stuff? From what I've heard, Ultra in the Beta was in fact High.

Well tess was very light in the beta, ultra was ultra but it had things missing like full destruction which was again toned down in the beta the final definitely looks better and destruction looks awesome.

destruction is nice, but i will have no issue playing this on high rather than ultra. id rather have smooth frames than eye candy.
