Hello everyone...I spent nearly all of this past weekend attempting to lower the temps of my video card by installing both the Artic Cooling Silencer 5 and the Zalman vf700cu. But neither cooler was able to lower the temps of my 6800gt. I got the same temps with both as i did with the original cooler. Has anyone else experienced these results? I mean I am no newbie and am quite capable of installing these things and other things. It sucks because i've spent so much money and still cant get temps any better than 51C. I think the original cooler even got lower temps! Is my video card special in that no matter what cooler is attached to it the temps will still be at 51C?? Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Very odd indeed m8

I have this 51° C thingy with my CPU wich is cooled by an Arctic Copper Lite (Temp Control)
It prob keeps the CPU around 50° C (spins slow at startup but faster at load)

But that doesn't fix ur prob and I can't help ya with that

    Good luck tho!

What drivers do u use? Try installing the last official 71.89 they have bugfixes for temps.
With my NVs5 my 6800Ultra fell from 58 idle to 46 and full load from 78 to 57!!

The normal operating temperature on my 6800 is around 51 idle and goes up to 70+ max on stock cooling w'out air-con in a tropical country, which I think is alright.

thats about the same as mine, i do fancy a load temp in the mid-50s though :)

So.. (prepares for riot) which is better, the NV5 or the Zalman ?

yea, but come on guys...we spend 40+ bucks on an enhanced gpu cooler...well we should expect an improvement over the stock cooling on vid cards. Shouldnt we? this is strange, i'll try the 71.89 drivers.

i prefer the XG 76.41's these are great with my 6800 and there is no temp bug, hopefully then you will see your efforts rewarded :)

i read in the reviews on newegg.com that sometimes these coolers just need time to settle in before you can see any benefits like lower temps. is there any validity to these claims?

The only thing I'm sure about is that the maximum performance of the thermal paste enhanced approximatelly after 200 hours, this includes CPUs.
