That 8GB on the 300 series is just marketing to some in single card configurations. For me I would need 2 or 3 of them cards not to run out of gpu power.

Yea, I was going to say, in tri-CF, with multi-screen setups, it might be useful

I expected a better performing Fury X with at least 8GB to make an upgrade of my 290X CFX to the Fury X2.

No way, too weak to compete with Nvidia alternative and the lack of more Vram make it not future proof for 4K gaming.

Waiting for Nvidia 16(14?) nanometer GPUs or some miracle from the next AMD GPU....next year.

Stop saying that. Even if 390 cant use all 8GB it can atleast push 5-6GB effectively, thats still better than 3.5GB-4GB.

You're right... Is that why the 390 8gb losses to every 4gb - 6gb gpu with more gpu power every time?

After reading some of the AMD section on here... I realised Nvidia have a new killer feature. Buy an Nvidia card and you won't have to put up with brain dead forum posts.

The 4gb variant of the same gpu will run the same as the 8gb same exact clocks in game settings and resolution.

Not worth it, 140€ difference between the two. That 390 Nitro deal was amazing. I could probably easy sell my 280X at 150€ though.

Let's just hope they wont be more expensive when new stock arrives.

Why upgrade? You posted several time a 280x is as fast as a 780. You could just enjoy the free upgrade.

Yeah but I have no delusions of grandeur about my current 780ti's gpu power.

Depending on the game, your current GPU takes on the 970 and even the 980 at times. That's nothing to scoff at.

    Are you kiding me?

Are you seriously making this GIANT upgrade from a 280X to a 390(290) 8GB?

For your information there are 290X 8 GB models avalaible for only 30 euros more than a 390 (290) 8 GB here in Europe paid in Euros.

    Not 140 euros, 30 euros....

    :)

I have a freesync monitor (2560x1440 BenQ XL2730Z Freesync) and if i want use the freesync side of things i need to swap out my 780s for something AMD

atm i cant decide on what that should be , my budget is about 500 uk pounds or just a little more and this is without selling my 780s as i'm going the use then in another build i have planned for my lounge (front room) later this summer .

Should i get a fury x ? , but the 4gb of vram bothers me , or i could just about afford 2 r390 and C/F them . Im also a little worried about driver support as well to be honest, and nvidia gameworks titles , Crossfire , and day one driver support for games

Or i stay with Nvidia and get myself a 980ti and don't bother with freesync this time around . You don't miss what u have not had .

Any advice or your thoughts is very much welcome.

980Ti hassle free better performance specially at 1080p and 1440p, more Vram same price as Fury X, better games support day 1....

Thats the way i've been thinking too , but i'm i missing out on something special by not using the freesync.

You see i didn't buy this monitor i won it and i dont want to sell it as it's the only thing i've ever won or got for free in my life ,, apart from crabs lol.

G-sync is AT LEST equal if not better adaptative sync solution.

Nothing is free you need to have a monitor who support FreeSync.
