Why is this gaining traction? What's this got that's not been done before?

Why does something have to do something new to gain traction? People have been clamoring for a new Left 4 Dead for ages and this is it. I for one am happy it’s coming out and quite enjoy it.

The first 2 games are some of my all time favorites for Lan games. Playing as the mutants was so much fun.

Because otherwise you might as well be playing the previous entries (or corresponding similiar titles assuming this in fact does not bring anything new ) which offer the same. Why reward reduncancy? But yeah, as long as you're having fun :)

Was waiting for this, but learned that it's DLSS only (no mention of FSR), so I'm gonna give it a hard pass on principle. Meanwhile, looking to get Hired Gun, after I'm done with some of the games I have on backlog.

It’s not a demanding game, runs very well even with DLSS off.

You can make the game better though. Updates to graphics, quality of life, various changes here and there. Plus a new game you’ll actually find matches with other players.

I've played it a bit. It's L4D with a confusing card system and useless weapon attachments / resource system bolted on. I just want to pick up and play, not sort through menu's of cards and weapons.

As for performance: runs well, but makes my CPU abnormally hot even though it's using only a handful of cores.
Booting the game and sitting in the main menu = 70 C.
For reference: running 30 minutes of Cinebench pushes my CPU to 75 C.

I know it's nothing alarming or dangerous, but there are games with far more intensive graphics / units on screen that don't even come close to pushing the CPU that hard.

    Ryzen 3900X, NH-D15.

Finally managed to play it for an hour. But I'm not impressed.
It feels like Left 4 Dead 2, for good and for bad.
If all you want is a Left 4 Dead with little to no improvements, this game will do it.
And that's the problem. This feels like a game made in 2009.
But with a card system, that just ads confusion and some RNG. It's really bad.

Also the sound design is lackluster. I just finished playing Days Gone.
In that game the sounds of the zombies is visceral and scary.
And when we face an horde, it's epic and frightful.
The sound of hundreds of zombies screaming and the awesome music, just ad so much to the game,
But in Back for Blood, the sound and music is so bad, that facing an horde, almost feels like another day at the office.

Also, the weapons lack impact. The have little recoil, like it's a bee bee gun.
But the worst part is, again, the sound. Weapons sound really weak and lack punch.

Unless they change a lot in the next couple of weeks, this game is not worth full price.

It's only in beta mode. Who knows what the finished product will be like.

Since I don't own a crystal ball and magical powers, I can only comment on how the game is now.
Not on how the game will be when it releases.
I do hope they manage to improve it, just because it's good to have more good games to play.

They add some variability into runs, like in a Roguelite, they’re kind of fun. There’s also no need to spend any money on them either.
