So would this be classed as a step up from the x-fi? I will be honest and say the music playback on my now boxed up meridian was far superior. However the lack of games with multi channel sound in vista plus no eax really annoyed me.

    So worthy upgrade?

But they ship like lightning and have ub33r customer service.

And I'd say the Z-5500, way more worth it because you already have an X-fi of a higher ranking.

The more i've used the klipsch though, the more I really don't see how the 5500 would be better. One extra speaker for 5.1, thats the key though.......

ok people i have read though the last few pages of this thread and it seems that people think that the card will give better sound via digital than any amp will ????

    i have a cambridgeaudio Azur 540R + a pair of Mordaunt-Short 914
    http://www.cambridgeaudio.com/specifications.php?PID=1&Title=Specifications
    http://www.mordauntshort.com/specifications.php?PID=18&Title=Specifications

and i just dont see how a sound card that cost £120 can keep up with a mid-high range av reciver like u say it does..... i mean my setup give very very crisp/deep sounds and i have had alot of setups over the last few years, NEARLY OF RICHERSOUNDS PRODUCTS lol and these are by far give the most detailed sound ive heard from mid-high range setups

    Read more closely son :)

    Analog > Digital

That's up to you to decide...go check avsforums and it's semi-twin (the X-Meridian) tears up the competition (especially with the LM4562's which I'm happy to say I use).

I would consider buying an Auzentech Prelude but they haven't released a 5 1/4 drive so I can connect my 5.8GHz Amphony headphones to the optical output while the rear digital output is connected to my Z-5400 speakers.

    One S/PDIF output isn't enough!

I checked into the x-tension din and it may be an option. I have 2 desktop PCs configured with the same parts and I hate having to reach around to the back of either PC to connect my wireless digital headphones to listen to game audio or music. I guess I may be able to find a 3' male to female cable that would be extended out to the side of each PC so I won't have to reach around to the back of either PC.

    That could work.

Now all I'm waiting for is word on whether Creative owns part or all of Auzentech. Time will tell.

I actually did both....I replaced my XFi Extreme music with the Prelude, and I just ordered the Logitech Z5500 Speaker system as well...(I got them from Dell, priced at 259.00 and free shipping)...The prelude really outshines the XFi Extreme music in Gameplay as well as playing music..plus it performs flawless with Vista 64Bit as well as 4Gig Of RAM, something my creative card would not do.....

Some prefer to play games with EAX and some don't care about it as long as they get a good sound quality.

All I can say is the gunshots in Medal of Honor: Airborne are ffaaannnttaabbulous on the Prelude. I may as well be holding a 98 Karabiner in my hand.

Yeah I tend to like newegg, too. But I also believe in market competition, so I went with ncixus for the first time and took a gamble. I ordered it around noon on the 12th, and I received my shipping tracking number before the end of the day. On top of all that, I payed about $40 less than newegg after shipping and everything.

Free markets work -- newegg should be careful as customer loyalty only goes so far.
