ATI HD6950/HD6970 - Can I change the memory timings?

I was wondering if it is possible to change the memory timings.

Increasing the overdrive limits doesn't work anymore using software. I was wondering if I could change the memory timings with copy pasting that part into the HD6950 BIOS if there is no GUI editor.

Does the HD6970 have tighter or looser timings? If they are looser I don't think I can make use of them

Any ideas if I should try this ? I am a pro in hex editing. Just wondering what kinds of things I can do to my HD6950

My HD6950 doesn't like the Sapphire BIOS

 

Both cards should have the same timings unless the IC's are different...which I doubt.

Anyway the Overdrive limits can still be extended, are you using Afterburner?

 

you want to increase the limits? why dont you just use the racerx reg hack..it still works with the official 12.3s


the 6970 has tighter timings..i once flashed a reference 6950 with a 6970 bios..the card ran a lot hotter and i lost the voltage control (since the voltage controller is different)

 

That doesn't indicate the timings are tighter.

The 6970 should run hotter anyway, as it uses higher voltage (1.17 vs 1.10).

 

yes but the 6970 does have tighter timings...the chips are different as well...the 6950 has chips rated for 5000 while most 6970 have 5500 and some have 6000 chips..and the bios makes the gpu run at 1175mv(hence its hotter) i just need 1085mv to run them at 880/1375

 

Well the only way to know for sure is by looking up the part number....I know my card has Hynix chips but don't feel like pulling off the cooler to see the numbers....
