well if its 9500 non pro then you can softmod it to 9700.
See the card if the memory chips are in L shape then its 256Bit card and if the chips are in straight line then it is 128 bit.

How do you mean "softmod"? Prolly a very stup question =)

Is that to do with replacing atim2tag.sys (or something like that - i don't rememer) with a hacked one? If so, i already tried it and it meant that the card would only work in 640x480x16. From this, i deduced that the pipelines are broken. Would this deduction be right?
I also tried doing it in Riva Tuner, but not a lot happened

    well there are work around.
If you dont wana do it manually you can use DNA drivers which in setup only allows you to softmod your card.
Or you can use Rivatuner scripts to softmod your card.
DNA is the easiest as you just have to select by clicking a mouse and it will install drivers, patch it and when you restart you have softmoded card.
    Give this a try.

use these drivers www.omegacorner.com the dna drivers are just a fearther moding of the omegas

i tryed bouth and found omegas to be cleaner and have clearer texturers and smoother fps :)

Has anyone tried to overclock Sapphire 9800 XT? With normal cooler of the card.

I tried, and soon I began to see white dots and artifacts (tested with rthdribl). So I couldn't oc it actually at all (just a little bit, I'll post specs when I get to home), whats the prob?

My CPU temp is around 48 idle, and bit more when playing hard.

Sorry for my bad english, and I'm no guru with oc'ing :)

according to me its useless for even a casual overclocker.
It increases clock speeds by 6Mhz or so and memory speeds stay put no matter how cool or hot your card is.
On stock cooling on my 9800XT it oced core to 418 from stock 412.
Then I replaced stock cooling by kick A$$ waterblock + peltier cooling and still it will oc to 418 only.

I used the new omega drivers (as you suggested), and i was getting a sort of checkered background. This sounds to me like artifacting, though i ran the artifact tester program and it didn't pick up on them. The rectangles were there whatever i did, on my Desktop or in a benchmark. Would i be right in thinking that the pipelines are broken?

this means that softmod was unsuccessful.
This is very rare for 9500 non pro.
Are your memory chips in L shape on PCB?
Try it again or you can also try DNAs.

Yeah they are. If anyone can tell me how i could upload a pic.

It's the Sapphire 9500, 128mb. Would using a different softmod change anything? It doesn't really matter anyway - it's more than fast enough

Well I suppose that overdrive ain't that good as they say. But what VGA-heatpipe you would prefer.

I was thinking these two maybe:

    ZALMAN VGA Heatpipe, ZM 80C-HP

    or

    Thermaltake VGA-HeatPipe Giant II ( A1655 )

    What do you ppl think?

You might want to take a look at this Ins-ect, this is very cheap, and also quiet

Well if you are looking to overclock i would suggest stay away from heatpipes. From my experience and countless others heatpipes are good noiseless substitute for stock HSF at stock speeds. If you wana overclock get VGA silencer and on cards like 9800XT stick to stock unless you wana use watercooling. VGA silencer and most other heatpipes are not compatiable with 9800XT.

well try different driver set, maybe you wana give DNAs a try.
Also use drivers based on cats 3.7. They are the best till date for 9500/9700/9800 non XT.
also to upload the pic you can register to
    http://picserver.student.utwente.nl
    or
    www.uploadit.org

upload your file there and copy the url given by them.
    Then come here and type

without " " and no space between url and img code brackets :)

does changing the AGP voltage in my motherboard BIOS make any difference? I have an abit nf7-s rev 2.0 mobo and have the AGP voltage set at the default 1.5v. BTW using your methods were great, I was able to get my Sapphire 9600XT up to 590/350 from the stock 500/300. Pretty good for me with no extra cooling! :)
