    PCIE and AGP should make no difference, as long as the GPU is supported by the driver..

    Maybe drivers installed but I don't think you get FirePro performance.. There is a newer script by shoko for 8.72(3) driver and even this one doesn't work with 8.773.1 driver..

    But anyway you could do a SPEC ViewPerf 10 run and post a screenshot here, but I don't think your mod was successful..

    Hello everybody,

    I have a ASUS W90VP notebook and i have tried to softmod the two graphic cards : ATI Mobility Radeon 4870 Crossfire.

    I have folllow all the thread and here is the result:

    @stock-----------------with softmod driver version 8.723
    catia-03, 4.70,-----------catia-03, 4.03,
    ensight-04, 9.46,---------ensight-04, 12.33,
    lightwave-01, 16.00,-----lightwave-01, 14.96,
    maya-03, 6.27,----------maya-03, 24.98,
    proe-05, 1.32,-----------proe-05, 2.61,
    sw-02, 15.29,------------sw-02, 17.87,
    tcvis-02, 3.45,-----------tcvis-02, 11.04,
    snx-01, 7.59,------------snx-01, 17.62,

    It's a little better but i was thinking about a little more perf.
    Now, I also have some graphic bugs in solidworks like black flickering.
    Did i do something wrong?

    Thank you

    If you benched with ViewPerf 10 the results should be much higher.. So very likely you did something wrong, but my crystal ball is in repair atm, so you have to provide further details (OS, what did you do?) ;)

    Edit: found out you benched with ViewPerf 11.. I have not much experience with it, but maybe your CPU is locking in some benches..??

    isn't 3dMax Direct X anyways? Why would modding for OpenGL help?

    Are we getting behind the technology?

    Noticed that the 4870 the most current moddable card was made in 2008, wondering if it would be better to use a new card un-modded than hang on to a 4 year old card that can be modded.

    isnt this card getting pretty old"??

    thanks.

    yes very said.. got me another 4890 while waiting for another mod.. 2x4890 is still better than 5870 and only 50 euro for a used card..

    wo hold on could you go crossfire??? would that work for SWX? or 3ds max?

    I have a 16million poly file that is beating the crap out of my 4870 i do have two of them in that motherboard. but have not tried crossfire.

    Can you guys explain, since AMD resently released Catalist OpenGL Beta drivers for Radeon card series, and they seems to support new OpenGL 2.4 version that might be used in oncoming SolidWorks 2012 and other CAD releases, is it still beneficial to mod a regular latest Catalist driver into a FireGL driver for a corresponding GPU? Or AMD own OpenGL Catalist beta driver will do the same trick without any mods? Is it different from a latest FireGL driver - in what way?

    Or, may be its better to mod this beta OpenGL driver into FireGL instead of modding a regular Catalist Radeon driver? What do you think? Anyone have seen any articles or forum posts on the topic? Do you expect any difference between new AMD OpenGL and modded Radeon-to-FireGL drivers in terms of accessing more CAD software features and modeling speed?

    Also another question: what one would need more RAM for, when using a CAD system like SolidWorks or another graphics application? Will 4Gb RAM suffice any typical tasks, if not - why? What's more important when working with a CAD system - video RAM or regular RAM size, and why?

    @Terrablader

    I will try CrossfirePro when my second card arrives..

    @sambul81

    I don't think amd will harm their own bussiness by making FirePro series senseless.. But I will look at the driver you mentioned..

    Also we don't mod Catalyst driver, we mod FirePro driver to function with Radeon..

    To your RAM question, both is important and depending on your software and what you want to load into it.. With the current RAM prices I would take 8GB and upwards..
