[SOLVED!] ATA100 HDD - Burst speed 80+, Sustained speed <1.0 .. terrible, any advice?

I have 2 hdd in my old nForce2 computer.
Just reinstalled windows after totally messing up the partition on drive 1 during a botched partition resize.

    After I installed WinXP SP3:
Installed nForce drivers (5.10 as well as diff version for IDE). UDMA mode 5 is enabled for drive 2, but when I do a "Speed Test" the burst speed is above 80, but the sustained speed is 0.6!

Drive 1 seems fine - sustained speed 40+; Drive 2 is stuttering even watching a divx movie which never happened before.

Any advice as to what I could try? Would a reformat of Drive2 help?

    Thanks in advance

UPDATE: faulty IDE cable, replaced :)
