    Hi everyone,

so my current phone is an Huawei P10 that has been a great companion, but sometimes i think about getting something more recent, the problem is that i hate big phones!

This leaves with a somewhat limited choice and since i`m not a fan of Apple`s walled and controlled garden, the choice becomes even thinner...

Anyway, i always had curiosity about Asus Zenfone phones but i`ve already read some very contradictory opinions about them, some say that the phones are great and as good as the competition from Samsung and Apple. Others say the phones are crap, with stuff that simply stops working and crappy support from Asus...

I ask this because some shops are starting to selling the Zenfone 9 at lower prices, around 600€. Still expensive but much better than 900/1.000€!...

I have no urgency on changing phone, this is more for curiosity, but feel free to use this thread to discuss Asus phones.

Actually there is plenty of competition among small phones. Galaxy S23 can be had for about 600€ right now (with Snapdragon chip in Europe, too!). Also the new S24 will come down in price soon enough as well. Then there is Google Pixel 8. You have to also consider software. I think Google or Samsung are much more reliable and advanced in phone software, compared to something like Asus.

    Each to its own.
I established a 300€ threshold for a smartphone, taking in account all the criteria.
Apart form that, software has a bigger weight that first seems, so hardware specification are good and dandy, but without proper software, it's just metal and plastic.
Moreover, never forget that smartphones are little computers, those buggers are constantly spying on us.
Get a Pixel, flash GrapheneOS on it and kill two birds with one stone.
    My 2 cents

I know the "regular" Samsung S23 is also "compact" but i thought that the Pixel was a little bigger, i`ll have to check it out.

As for software, i agree that Samsung and Gooble are better than Asus but i read that the Zenfone is also good in that aspect, with the Asus skin layered on top of Android without too much garbage added to it.

The biggest problem of Asus phones seem to be long term support...

I`ve paid 350€ for my current phone and i would like to spend little more for a new one, but we have to understand that everything is more expensive, like it or not.

This doesn`t mean that this Zenfone 9 is worth 600€ but it`s the price i have to pay if i want it...

And i don`t know if there are decent phones around 300€ right now...

As for spying, i try to to keep my phone as "clean" as possible, with very few apps and without having anything critical/important installed on my phone.

The problem is that right it`s almost impossible to avoid being spied by everything that moves...

My porn history is common knowledge by now...

Not really. What i like and use more is the internet, it`s so handy to have everything on our phone so i can read news, play some silly games or do some work, it`s really good.

And while the Zenfone 9 is basically the same size of my Huawei, the bezels are thinner, increasing the screen are, and the screen is also better, so that`s a big bonus and probably the main reason for me considering a new phone.

The bigger and better battery is also a nice upgrade.

Like i wrote before, i have no urgency on a new phone and my P10 is still going strong but a new one with a better screen and longer lasting battery would be nice.

    Thanks for the replies.
