ASUS Rampage III Extreme gets tested. We test the ASUS Rampage III Extreme motherboard. The X58 based Rampage III Extreme is unadulterated performance quality versatility some recently introduced innovation... More...
Thanks for the review. This motherboard looks extremely well, but does it OC better than Rampage II Extreme (or others that you have)? How much speed do you get at the same voltage, or what voltage is needed on other mobos to achieve the same speed as with R3E. It may be a really interesting choice for extreme overclockers who aren't interested in EVGA's dual-socket monster. Meanwhile I think I'll stay with R2E.
I wonder how stable their OC tools will be - I had various issues, crashes etc with ASUS Tweak utils. From the review, it appears they improved it.
The RC TweakIt feature is fantastic on this new board. In fact, I don't know why the mobile phone version was considered a gimmick because it really isn't. I found it very useful during overclocking in that I could monitor voltages and temperatures dynamically. The best thing is that you can make slight tweaks without rebooting to BIOS each time. Also in the one day I spent overclocking on mine, I got to 222MHz BCLK stable, which I thought was impressive for my chip. I'm sure with more time spent on it with more exotic forms of cooling, it can reach even higher clocks.
Thanks for a breathtaking review. I have recently assembled my rig (spes in signature) and my friend lend me a copy of 3DMark Vantage and I ran it. I got P13156 overall. GPU=106 and the CPU=45560. My GTX 260 is running @ 702-Core, 1053-Memory, 1458-Shader and is stable. My CPU is @ 3.0GHz. If you look at the screenshot of the Vantage Score and notice that the CPU score is LOWER than mine? here is a list of only the CPU scores mine/980X CPU test 1 32.55/110.10 fps (it is normal) CPU test 2 29.70/111.01 fps (it is normal) CPU test 1 2742.88/5781.89 planes/s (it is normal) CPU test 2 149.82/51.26 steps/s (it is NOT NORMAL) Am I missing something or what?
That's because your graphics card is doing all the Physics benchmarks rather than the CPU, hence the much higher score. If you disable Physx in the CP, your CPU score will go down.
Awesome review! Over-priced I don't think so. Cause if you're thinking about the price on these kind of hardware. You should not buy it in the first place
The board doesn't have the nf200 chip but running a card at 8x won't have a significant impact on performance either.
Awesome board, great review. *drools* *reaches for wallet, considers divorce much more expensive, puts wallet away* *sobs quietly in to his sleeve*
they ought to make a completely black version and call it the: Asus Rampage III Stealth Spoken in that super hero film voiceover man way or an alternative from Hallyru: Asus Extreme Dark Stealth! said in a squeaky iMac voice lol! you know Ieldra
