    Hello guys,
iam really look for advices because i had a feeling that it is time for upgrade my ageing 990x x58 ddr3 combo,so ive already bought a 5930k Cpu,and i need a decent mobo for it.i have two gpu so i want to use them x16 x16,but i have heard that if i want to use a dedicated sound card which i wanna, than i cant get the full PCI x16 x16 bandwidth, because the third slot is next to the slot where the sound card goes and an installed gpu will cover it,and only the third one is x16 slot,is it true for the Rampage ext 5?or can i achieve somehow x16 x16?can i plug the sound card to somewhere else? And is it a problem for the Sabertooth or this mobo is a better for the 2 way SLI+soundcard.i dont want to compromise,so the x16 x8 PCI speed is out of question. Many thanks and forgive me for my poor english

If it's a "no compromise" motherboard you want, get the Rampage V Extreme. That board will run anything, including the new PCI SSD's.

yes i know but the problem is that only the first and the third PCI slot can give a x16 x16 speed, but i have an soundcard, and the slot for the dedicated soundcard is next to the third pci slot,so i cant use it if i want to get x16 x16 in two way SLI.or can i put my soundcard into an other pci slot?as i can see the sabertooth mobo has 3 x16 PCI slot,so its seems like to me that i can use any of them, but iam not sure,so that is why i need advice.

Thanks for the suggestion, but as i can understand, with the rampage extreme 5 i cant get x16 x16 if i will use one of the PCI 3.0 slot for my soundcard,i can get x16 x16 if i will use the tiny black pci 2.0?socket,which is next to the third slotand that is an x16 slot, but if there a graphics card has been installed than it will cover that pci 2.0 slot where my soundcard should be.iam not sure....

and what i wanna figure it out that if that is the case in the rampage extreme 5,than the Sabertooth can be use with two gpu in x16 x16 mode, and my soundcard?

Like I said, the sound card will work at it's maximum output on ANY PCI slot. I have my sound card in the 2nd slot between my video cards. Both video cards run X16 speeds. My mobo is the Rampage IV. No problems and no issues.

many thanks for your advices.and iam sorry for the many question, iam just want to make sure that i can use the rampage 5 properly,i dont want to see a x16 x8 SLI when i spend a lots of money. The manual said that if i want to use 3 way SLI,than it will be like this x16 x8 x8.wont it count the same as the 3 way SLI ,if i put the my soundcard into the second red slot?on the pictures i can see a long black slot between the first and the second red PCI 3.0 slot, did you mean that i can install my sound card into that black pci slot, and will it let me use the first and the third slot in x16 x16?pls forgive me for the many question.thanks

With the Rampage 5 Extreme you can only go x16/x16, or x16/x8/x8. Nothing else is possible. In my opinion still a major fail on Asus's side, and yet I don't know why it isn't possible (crappy board layout in regards to lanes).
Also, if you need to use your PCIe soundcard, you'd be better off with the Sabertooth, both physically and with PCIe lanes.

Thanks.i was plan to buy an xtreme rampage 5,since i my mobo now is extreme rampage 3,and its an amazing motherboard,5 years old still rocking, but i read somewhere else that someone bought the newest one and he cant use he"s two graphics card in x16 x16 mode, because he also have and soundcard, and its must be in the tiny pci slot which located next to the third pci 3.0 slot, and the first and that third slot can be use to have 2 gpu in x16 x16 mode.and the sabertooth have three x16 slot,so its does not matter where you put your gpus and soundcard which i found shocking since its a much cheaper model.any way,i will go for the sabertooth.

You're preaching to the choir my friend.

I was surprised too, and quite annoyed by this also. Could set up 16/16/8 for 2way SLI and a dedicated physix card (which is quite overkill anyway). Although technically not even noticable, I didn't feel that a costly mainboard as the R5E should need to run 3 GPUs at 16/8/8. The performance loss would be not noticable, that I'm certain, but then again you spend 400€ on a board and don't get the full chipset and CPU's capabilities... a design flaw imho. I went with it non the less because at that time, it was the only board to have the cooling sollution available I wanted (watercooling monoblock).

I think you will be fine with the sabertooth, just doublecheck on the features besides PCIe lanes. But I think you'll be fine with it.

yes, that is how i think about it,£360 motherboard, and i cant get the max out of it?its a disappointment for sure.. iwas lucky to read those reviews, otherwise i just order the board without hesitate.the sabertooth cost £90 less,at least i can spend the money on a decent cooling(Zalman CNPS9900DF).there is a fear as well that i cannot install 4 ddr4 modul because the cooler is bend over the memory slots, but what i read is that was if i order a low profile memory sticks, than i will be fine, will see it.thanks again to share your opinion here!
