AMD is to launch the regular air-cooled Fury series (without the X) soon and all of the sudden at a price-watch entry a ASUS Radeon R9 Fury STRIX with DirectCU III pops up. ... ASUS Preps Radeon R9 Fury STRIX with DirectCU III Cooler ?
Fury X's margin over 980 isn't that huge, and it's losing to 980Ti, so I don't see how they could afford to cut anything much in the regular Fury, aside from a little of the MHz to keep it from frying. Especially if that price is for real. That's significantly more than 980, after all, yet if they cut a lot, the performance will be the same as 980's. If they made it nicely cheaper than 980, then I could see them possibly cutting some stuff. In the end, however, I reckon the card must be a viable choice for those who don't want X's water cooling.
The mini versions of the 970 all have revised coolers, iirc. Here's the Asus DCU http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/zardon/asus-geforce-gtx-970-directcu-mini-4096mb/
I want to know what is AMD smoking coz it must be good to release that gpu at that ridiculous price. fury x is in between 980 ti and 980 ,but this one is competing with 980.
That was kinda already done before with MSI 7770 Power edition as far as I can remember (tho two fans only).
I agree. You can purchase a 980 with a decent factory OC for about $500. The cost of this card is just a bit much.
