We review the ASUS Maximus V GENE Z77 Motherboard. a smaller motherboard mATX yet a product that just oozes with dandy features and overclock potential. Next to the tweaking possibilities this is a...

Lovely review, the next motherboard I get is quite likely to be a GENE!

That said I find myself concerned by the Cinebench test, due to the disparity between results of the 3770K on different motherboards.

6.78 to 7.91 is simply huge, it's larger than many of the differences between AMD's FX and Intel's core series for example.

Any idea of why there's such a disparity of results with the 3770K?

The ROG motherboards 'somehow' always run a notch faster as ASUS tweaks a little with the ROG series. Likely they force the turbo's a little.

Compared to many of the others that seems consistent enough, I'm just concerned that the Intel board absolutely destroys the others in Cinebench. The disparity between the Intel board and the lowest 3770K performer is bigger than between a 2500K and 2600K, never seen that in any review I've read before.

Might be firmware maturity I suppose.

So Hilbbert managed to overclock the cpu to 5.0Ghz despite many people saying that the CPU can´t go past 4.6. Is this because some suicide voltages or because others aren´t pushing the chip as high as possible?

By the way Hilbbert, do you know when you will review the the Asus Deluxe board? I´m a sucker for that board...

Also what can you tell us about the Intel Insider? Charlie from Semi Accurate has raised some concerns about this new "feature": http://semiaccurate.com/2012/04/23/intel-launches-ivy-bridge-amid-crushing-marketing-buzzwords/.
Can you elaborate about this, please?

Thanks and keep up the good work!

Well, 1.416V is pretty toasty when the default is ~1.1V.

Though like was alluded to in the article, people won't run such setups without water cooling.

Why it can't be pushed effectivly higher in clocks than sandybridge? It is on smaller fab and has less TDP.

Forget sb its gone back to overclocking with cooling, its faster then sb you just have to cool it to get good clocks.

The differences in the desing and process doesn't always mean an improvement in these characteristics.

Besides, IVB is more geared towards lower power and mobile chips than high frequency.

Also, the process is more immature than 32nm was when SNB launched on it.

Any chance that we can get a review of the P8Z77-V DELUXE too?
