But why ? *insert meme here*

Who in the world picks up their M.2 SSD from their computer and carries it around ... in rain and dust storms, no less?

People who are using a old m.2 drive as a large fast external storage device. For external system backup. There are loads of use cases.

I'm actually looking for a M.2 enclosure for an old 256gb drive that I replaced in my work laptop and a "robust" IP rated enclosure that's going to spend a large chunk of time rattling around in the bottom of my backpack is very attractive.

During my time as a technician I had to work outside sometimes and fix broken equipment on say rooftops or on the street. During that time I sometimes would have liked to have some USB drive or something which is waterproof. Some USB connectors were hidden deep inside some cases, so I had to plug in an extension cable and then connect my hard drive (old times) to transfer data. So this HDD was put on top of the locker or box and sitting there, prone to rain, snow, etc.
Agreed, nothing of much value for a common home user, but I would guess a viable solution for technicians working outside. ;)

To gamers, there is no "outside".

Why? as M2 is by itself rain and dust resistant...
And why? as for 45 Euro there is more cute and practical M2 external controler (but OK there is not TUF writen on it)

It's mainly for those who want to recycle old M2 in external drive (for XBox or PS5 as an exemple), and for those who have a single M2 on their motherboard.

BTW this one handle the M2 in X2 only ans SATA despite it's USB C 3.2... It's for old M2.
Most concurent do it in X4 and even some are in USB C TB4 for some.
So it's entry class product at (not so, this time as not X3) high Asus price.

Wait what I've had two of these since December. I think your June release date is bogus these have been out for 6 months now..

As for why would anyone want these... I use them as Windows boot drives for the steam deck.
