Does it comes with DHT4? i hated the software that came with Phoebus, it was pure crap. the software that came with the D Series was light years ahead.

well,I resume by saying that the surround on this card is awesome
blows my zxr away .It's just so pronounced.
my z-5500 never sounded so good
    I'll be testing out my sennheiser HD-558's (w/modmike v4)
over the next couple of days

Bigcid also you do realize the STX II and the ZXR are using differnet op-amps which can effect the sound signature of the cards which why people usually swap out the default op-amps for better ones off the bat. Which why sound card with op-amp sockets are very handy. So if you don't like the way it sound by default then pop in some LME4670NA's, 2x49990's,LT1364, LT1213,OPA2107 so forth and get the sound signature that you want. Also the muse op-amps that are on the STX II's are the cheaper ones, they are not the well known versions of the muse op-amps that people tend to use.

But it explains why you like the sound of the STX II over the ZXR because of the op-amps the STX II are using vers the JRCs in the I/V which are used for headphones and Which ever the ZXR is using for the buffers which both is used for the RCA out's. I bet if you had taken out the default op-amps out if you had the patience for it and a IC remover, you would had kept the zxr.

The first thing i suggest people to do with STX/ZXR before they grab a STX II is to swap out the op-amps to difference ones if they don't like the default sound signature of the sound card, Also applies to Titanium HD as well HDAV1.3 and Xonar DS users. Some people don't relies that changing the op-amps makes a difference and this coming from a ex hardcore op-amp roller and I had a bunch of sound cards and external devices that had op-amp sockets, also the same op-amp can sound difference in difference sound cards because of their design too.

I've been doing research over the last few weeks of getting a new headset (old one has the cord beginning to rip out of its volume control box) so my pc360's are coming this Friday. I've been hoping to purchase a sound card as well and while looking for general information I saw this thread (so I immediately registered). I saw the new STX II being released after having read a lot of good things from its predecessor. I'm currently waiting for a sale for the STX so I'm in no rush, but I just wanted to hear what you have to say in your review ROBSCIX and see if your points will sway me to buy the STXII.

For anyone who might have their two cents to put in and can help with my decision -

I'm a heavy gamer, my girlfriend is a music listener. I primarily use headphones, she uses speakers (and hopefully we plan to buy a 5.1/7.1 surround setup) for our house.

I know my sennheisers are more of a entry level thing but it would be nice to have a good sound card that can push those to their full potential as well as have the option for future 7.1 speakers.

Which is why the STXII 7.1 with daughterboard is extremely tempting, (but from what I've read, North America may not have them in the market).

If anyone has better alternatives which are just as good please do share your opinion.

Will be watching this thread closely. Thanks!

I did swap out the opamps on zxr .I used,1st 49720na
    2nd bur-brown opa637bp
but it really didn't make much of a difference
besides my biggest issue was the lack of support
from creative ,I know that Asus isn't much better
but creative was giving me a real bad taste in my mouth
and I just wanted off that plate of food
    this card seems like it's made better,sounds better,and I don't have the
OS issues (so far) as we speak

I started my audio system upgrade today
    1:stx II 7.1
    2:Yamaha RX-V2600 7.1 130x7 3 zone
I'm replacing my z-5500's with the receiver and speakers(not sure yet)
the 2600 has multichannel analog audio in and hdmi
that receiver must have been a major player back in the day
my buddy is a yamaha dealer so it was free ,Yeeeh!

My 7 year old Yamaha RX-V363 has muiti channel analog inputs as well, the receivers with those connections are getting harder and harder to find. Mine still works great but I not used at my PC any more but for the front room TV but then I never gotten around to get the rest of the speakers together, still have just 2 speakers plugged into it.

I would have considered going that route, but since I didn't have to pay
for it,how much do it argue ,lol
it looks like a pretty kick ass receiver though

Yea now a days the new receivers that has both HDMI audio and Muiti input analog cost a arm and a leg. Which is crazy, I don't see my self getting a new receiver any time soon and if mine die then that's when i move to either hDMI or some powered bookself monitors.

How's that review coming Rob? Itching to read it. I'm still stuck pretty much on the Creative ZxR and Essence Stx II 7.1 - The older STX is about 4 years old and is in need of an update to it's 2.0 streamlining.

The card I'll most likely buy is if the Zxr drops in its price to range between 150-200 (including tax). Or if the STX hits the shelves.

My pc360's already sound great with the on-board chip on my msi z87 gd65.

I wonder how much cleaner it will be with a dedicated card.
