I have been using 2x AC87U one as a AP and other as a media bridge, good distance between them both, and get pretty decent transfer speeds 86-92mbps.
I would imagine this is a cheaper way of doing that.
Always have had good experience with Asus's routers and such.

Good wireless routers are so hard to find, I had no idea that wireless tech was so bad after using Ethernet for so long. I had nothing but issues with Asus and their software, I gave up on them, but I had issues with netgear and linksys too.

The only router to just work 100% of the time is the Apple Router, I thought I'd try it since the benchmarks showed it had some of the best overall performance. The benchmarks were right, it works throughout my whole house, where as my Asus kept dropping 2.4 and 5ghrz wouldn't even go through a wall without going down to 1bar.

I may have to buy something like this. Everything in my living room is wired so I have no problems streaming movies from my NAS. But if I decide to watch a movie in the bedroom I have to rely on WiFi and the movies skip and stutter all the time. Streaming DVD's seems to work OK most of the time but I can't even bother with a Blu-Ray rip.

I have to agree, when I first got my asus router, it was pretty unstable, but luckily asus do release router firmware pretty frequently, and has resolved all the issue I once had.
Im using 4 Asus routers, AC3200, AC68U and 2x AC87U and all of them have been rock solid since the most current firmware releases for each router.

performance wise, 2 AC87U (the EA-AC87 should give same performance) gives amazing performance without the need for running cables

That's my link speed between the two routers, distance between them is 3 floors, high ceilings, streaming Blu-Ray rip uncompressed via plex works perfectly in direct play.

u connecting to apple device? (macbookpro / iphone)
i have similar experience with apple devices, while non-apple working without any issue

check ur router wifi spec, and see what max wifi speed
if the issue about wifi-range... its better to just buy wifi extender
replacing the router might not solve ur issue
