Seriously, the more i play this game, the more i feel that it's a downgrade over previous AC games...

Something simple like clouds covering the sun matching sunlight on the ground... in previous AC games it matched up, giving great lighting... in this game, it's just a rolling sequence of light / shadow, despite the sky being completely clear. Lame downgrade to the lighting system, which was previously one of the strong points of AC !

Imo makes the visuals feel cheap, in addition to the more cartoonish graphics...

And i really dont get how it is about twice as demanding as the previous AC games, when it has been dumbed down on a technical level like this.

Btw if anyone knows how to disable this light / shadow sequence crap, then let me know - would look better just having light all the time, than these fake cloud shadows.

^ I've been meaning to search on ModDB.com for a mod to change the weather like some trainers do for other games. To get rid of the fake shadow and light cycle you mentioned. For example a file edit that changes weather to sunny. It would mean far fewer clouds but at least it would be all sunny or almost all sunny in the day. Btw nothing on Nexus so far for it that I can tell.

Discovery Tour will be released for this game in October. For those that don't know it turns off all fighting to let you take narrated/guided educational tours of various areas. Or just roam on your own.

Level 140, 75 hours got mythical gear and the grind is getting to be a little much. Awesome fun game and looks great in HDR at times but time to put the game down for a few months. There is so much I did not even see yet,not sure how people say there is nothing to do.

They just make you grind in order to fulfil the game with hours of gameplay. Boring quests, boring characters and synchronizations in every Ubi game. I enjoyed Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla but i'm getting a bit tired.

    The definition of insanity.

Vaas : ''Did I ever tell you what the definition of insanity is? Insanity is doing the exact... same procreating thing... over and over again expecting... crap to change''

Also, the DLCs are mediocre at best.

I forced myself to finish this one, but no way i'll play it again. This just wasn't as much fun as Odyssey or Origins. Gameplay ended up to repetitious.

I feel the same. It's miles behind Odyssey and Origins. The atmosphere, setting, characters and story of the other two were much more engaging.

I guess that says that the rest of Ubisofts catalog must be pretty sh!te.

Valhalla is pretty weak imho, starts off great but becomes really dull and repetitive hours later.

Story drags on without any interesting characters so you basically just conquer 1 area after another. Normal swords were just added to the game after a year and basically use animations from the daggers which looks kinda weird. Finishing animations are superlong and overly brutal in almost a comical manner. Enemies stand around you and cannot hit you until the animation has finished.

England is just green & dull and full of stone walls that make my horse jump every 10 seconds if it manages not to crash into it.

I guess its not a game for free explorers like me. Both Origins and Odyssey were so much better in that regard. I'm really surprised it sold so well

It was marketed well, gotta give ubisoft that. Game is basically a downgrade over previous AC titles, even on a technical level.

After Origins and Odyssey I'm very, very disappointed by Valhalla. I am not surprised it done well financially since the viking theme is like zombies were 10 years ago, basically everywhere and most of it historically inaccurate bullshit. And it also ticked all the right boxes for the SJW journalists/reviewers because of said inaccurate bullshit, so yeah...

It really is a downgrade gameplay/story/graphics wise even compared to Origins, compared to Odyssey it's night and day. At least I waited a year before buying it at a discount.

    This.

Only decent thing about the game is the two action figures I bought with it.

When I played Origins and Odyssey, first impressions were that these are the best, most epic games ever made. I was enthralled by them and the beautiful open worlds offered, not to mention great gameplay. But once you put in many hours (from level 50 or so), game fatigue sets in. That repetitive ever familiar grind that virtually any over-extended game suffers from. After about a 100 hrs, had to put them aside to continue at a later date. Could have finished them if focused only on main missions, but I explore and take on any and all side missions, which perhaps overly extended the games.

Valhalla otoh, had a terrible start. Didnt enjoy the icy north european wasteland bit, but when arrived to England things began to turn around. By mid-game was really enjoying it, esp the variety in gameplay vs the previous 2 titles. In presentation, Origins and Odyssey win by a mile. But in actual gameplay, Valhalla offered enough variety and fresh content to keep me interested without the grind creeping in. Got to level 380 or so but set it aside for time being (one last region to conquer).

Some of the missions In Valhalla were terrible though, esp when you serve as an errand boy having to speak to many NPCs for mission to get going. No question about it, its an inconsistent game. But at least it offered something new vs the previous 2 titles. Tbh, didnt care about the viking theme, but would have liked to see some good ship combat which Odyssey excelled in.

Funny, i felt the exact oppersite - the start in norway was very good, and i was very excited about it... then i got to england, which was can be boiled down to 1 word... boring.

Not surprised. Every single game in the forum has differing views by posters. People preferences in games, like in music or movies is never unanimous.
